Pat here,

Dear Liz,

Thanks for the highly informative Post with so

many good points.

One point in particular is just how different

Progestins are from Progesterone. I usually

think of Progestins as essentially 'anti-progesterone'

because most of the effects are literally the exact

opposites.

Lee MD's aptly labeled Chapter 7

" The Dramatic Difference Between Progesterone

and progestins " in his " ... Menopause ... " book

(Revised & Updated Edition 2004) remains a

useful introduction for those new to this issue.

A few of your many fine points I've listed below.

Thanks,

Pat

I either have or can get just about any research

article you want -- I have now over 900 articles

on hormones on my hard drive --...

-the most telling research articles of late have

been the major studies that have come out of Europe...

-Europe has more experience with bioidentical hormones

than the US -- especially France. What is most interesting

in light of theWP is that in Europe the only regimens that

showed an uptick in breast cancer for HRT was when the

synthetic progestins were used instead of progesterone

products.

-The 'low dose' regimens that avoided the synthetic

progestins did not show any increased BC rate -- which I

think demolishes Susie's theory of the need for these

extremely high supraphysiological amounts.

-There is a major confrontation on the HRT issue brewing

between America and Europe in terms of 'official' advice.

-Part of the problem with the synthetic progestins is that

many of them have non-progesteronic effects -- in fact

they may have androgenic and even estrogenic effects --

and do not properly oppose estrogen in those tissues

which natural progesterone does.

-I have yet to find a study of real progesterone use in a

cyclical regimen that used anything less than 200 mg of

micronized progesterone and ...
