Anyone going cold turkey until body stabilizes? > Peggy I did this once for nearly 2 months...way before WP and was on 10% prog. and tri-est. since mainstream medicine is fond of saying that it's best for a women to use HRT only for a year or two to get thru the " worst " symptoms of menopuase, and I had forgotten how hellish it could be, I figured why not try stopping. What happened was I was plunged back into menopause, hot flash city, night sweats and sleepless nights, mental clarity and ability to even remember basic words left me...so needing a decent night's sleep, I started up again. My Mom had seemingly high E throughout her life and for 30 years after menopause...my sister, who will be 70 tomorrow and is in good health, but has NEVER used a homrone is falling apart, low level depression, weight gain, wrinkles, no zest for life, no energy. I LOVE what E does for me...even more, I love what estradiol does..makes me feel like I did when I had a steady supply of my own. I was using 3mg BID estradiol and cycling progesterone and feeling fantastic, but after hearing about the horrible things " dribbling amounts of estrogen " would surely do to me..I was faced with a crossroads - either get on the WP lor stop all BHRT. It took me months of eating my docs heart out to get on the WP - but luckily I had the back-up of feeling well on E2 and prog. and getting a good 5 day bleed with it - which, incidientally " feels " right to me and healthy. So this is why I would absolutely NOT consider going off again. If BHRT that feels right is going to make me ill some day or ultimately shorten my life, I would sooner have 5-10 years less of my life than to have no quality of life (mental and physical) and live well into old age.
