Wear the band with a fever?

Riley has had a mild fever since yesterday and I didn't even consider

taking the band off while she was sick until I read a post from

Jaxen's mom where she said he hasn't been wearing it in a couple of

days since he has a fever.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

When we went to CT for our adjustment last week, Jaxen had a fever and they

told me not to keep him in his DOC Band when he has a fever because infants

tend to get so warm so quickly.

They also said when the fever subsides to gradually put him back in his DOC

Band (just like day one) and check every couple of hours for red

spots. Hope that helps.

I had no idea you were supposed to do this. No one ever mentioned it,

and it's NOT in the " Parental Instructions for Wear... " that we were

given when got her band. I think it SHOULD be in the

instructions, because I would think that could be fairly dangerous if a

baby gets a high fever, and it might not occur to moms to take the band

off. I know was sick a couple of weeks ago (her first cold) and I

never thought to take her band off - luckily she had a REALLY low grade

fever which never even got close to the point at which you're supposed

to call the doctor.

I wonder if we could get CT to change their instructions to add this?

Or maybe we should all just put our heads together and start a document

in the files section on " tips " for new wearers that they might not have

been told about or might not have thought of - what do you guys think?

On second thought, not everybody who gets a band/helmet will be part of

our group, so I still think it'd be beneficial for CT to change their

instructions.

I agree that CT should include this in their instructions. Maybe post a request on the CT site, I'm sure they would add it!

Dear Becky,

Thanks for bringing this up. When a child is sick, the best thing to

do is to call your clinician for advice. There is not an 'across the

board' rule and each child's situation is different. Sometimes when

bits of information & advice are shared things can get confused. The

child should be out of the band as little as possible. If a child has

a mild fever it is not necessary to remove the band. Instead, towel-

drying as needed is recommended. Usually if a child becomes very sick

with a high fever, parents can then remove the band and call their

clinician as soon as possible. Only when the child is very sick with

a high fever do we advise removing the band, and then it should be

reapplied right away when fever goes down. A period of " gradually "

going back into band is usually not necessary. But, again, it is

always recommended to check with your clinician. Please call your

local clinic with any further questions.
