Hi Birgit, Welcome to the board. We are following the same path. I

have been depressed and anxious for 25 years and now I am a little

tired of it and want to start living in the present. Hopefully ACT can

be a way for all people like us.

Hi Birgit,

Welcome to the group. I think you are in the company of some

really nice people here. It's good to sit back and read all of the

posts. You can get a lot of different takes on all the different parts

of ACT. Also helps you understand that you are not alone in your

problems. I look forward to reading your posts. Cheers, Joe.

  • 2 months later...

I had my first outbreak of EN in December 2008. It was first

attributed to an allergic reaction to RX drugs (Avelox and codiene

cough syrup) but later it was found that I had undiagnosed strept. I

was very fortunate that my neuorologist friend sent me to a

rheumatologist where I was immediately diagnosed with EN.

So I've been on prednisone for two months and have now been off for a

week. My lower legs ache now all the time....kinda like shin

splints. I have some left over bruising/lumps but that's about it.

My questions:

1)My Mom has severe Restless Leg Syndrome and I have had milder cases

of it through the years. Is there any link between RLS and EN?

2)What does an onset of EN feel like? I was so sick with everything

else at the time I got EN that I really wasn't paying attention. I

remember my legs feeling tired but nothing more specific.

Thanks for your assistance!

I don't know about RLS and EN, but for me, I always have joint pain

before the onset of EN. My wrists, knees and ankles start to ache like

I strained them. Particularly my knees, I've noticed.

I think it might be different for everyone though!

Hi Nan,

For me, my first flare, or even perhaps my 2nd consisted of being so extremely tired all the time. I slept on the way to work, on the way home. After getting home, my hubby would try to wake me up and for me to come inside, which I'd rather just continue sleeping in the car. Then later when I made it in, I would get to couch and collapse and could not talk, move...nothing. I was so thirsty, but could not even ask for water or get it myself. I would have to wait for tv to go down in volume and mumble something so hubby would hear me. Men and tv's, which at time I was none to happy about, I could of been dying. I would get to bed and sleep more. Next day...same thing all over again. Sore joints, chills, like a real bad flu. I also had cold/asthma symptoms and bronchitis to boot. I have had one continuous sore right elbow since.

I had the lumps on leg, the bio on knee, lumps on arms which got me to go to drs. the leg ones I thought came from the stump of my new energetic Doberman who would run into me all the time. But the ones on my forearms came on suddenly with nothing hitting into them.

Now, a few months earlier I was at Disneyland with being sore, swollen and tired...perhaps the same thing?? But, now when I feel run down, I rest. No need to remind me to rest now. Ü

Thanks for the info! Before the outbreak, I was really sick with a cold/flu but had to drive 16 hours to a client's conference, unload my truck and set up shop. I remember my legs hurting but ignored it because I've had several knee surgeries. I then had a temperature of 102 for several days and then EN started. Of course, I was getting to work through all of this! I thought I had some flesh-eating bacterial infection or the mange! > >> > I had my first outbreak of EN in December 2008. Hi Debbie!

Thanks for your response! Although I'm sorry you went through this,

I'm glad to hear it -- I think wer have about the same symptoms! I'm

exhausted all of the time. I'm a self-employed CPA so this isn't the

best time to have this...it's been 3 months now. I've also found out

that sometime during this adventure, my thyroid has quit. That

hasn't helped with the energy level either! (And I thought I was

thirsty because of my thyroid -- maybe it is the EN?) My Mom has had

to move by me beause she has Stage IV-A vaginal cancer and is now 9

months in on her predicted one year left to live. But at least I

don't have a husband or kids to inflict my misery on!

Anyway, I keep thinking that if I could get my stress level under

control, the EN would stablize/vanish. That may just be wishful

thinking!

Thanks for sharing.....nan

When I first got my EN and PG I thought I had a flesh eating disease or MRSA. I had my primary Drs. stumped.

That was me! I had a pedicure a couple days before and thought I had

gotten a flesh-eating disease (as seen on 20/20, Dateline) from it.

The diagnosis of EN was almost a relief at that time!
