Tammy,I didnt relize you just had a baby until this email. Very strange coincidence, but one of my very best friends had EN after her child. It lasted about three months until she tried a few things. She has not had it since and that is going on five years. The things that will help you besides the ACV is support stockings! These are a huge help, too! There are two very good brands: I like the Futuro (sp) brand. And another brand that starts with a "T" - i want to say Toms but I am spacing on the name. If anyone else remebers please share.Support stocking will prevent the noduls from creating bigger ones. It also helps with the pain.Best,ML GemmillEN - 1975Sent via BlackBerry from T-MobileFrom: Tammy Velasquez Date: Sat, 3 Jan 2009 05:07:31 -0800 (PST)To: <erythema_nodosum_Group >Subject: Re: Another new member Thank you all for your help. Just saw this and had to chime in...

My PG got horrendously worse during my pregnancy in 2003. I also got it while I was early in that pregnancy -- brought on by neighbors' flea infestation. It did improve but has not gone away after delivery.

Sincerely,

Christy :-)

Yes I am starting to wonder if there is any sort of connection with me

getting EN shortly after having my baby. I am going back to the

doctor tomorrow and I'll see what she thinks. I haven't gotten much

better. I went back to work yesterday and after sitting at my desk

for only 1.5 hours my ankles swelled back up terribly and I have a few

more nodules on my legs. Like I said before, I have had strep MANY

times and have never experienced anything like this.

I also had my first EN flare up after my first pregnancy -- about four months after I delivered. It started with a small nodule andd eventually the swelling and the pain spread to both legs. I remembered the pain as being excruciating especially first thing in the mornig. I was told pregnancy sometimes triggers EN outbreaks but I'm not sure if it's because of our change in hormone level right after delivering. My next flare up occurred almost 25 years later and during the time when I was going through menopausal changes. I don't know if hormones has anything to do with it but in my case it seems like hormones plays a big part.

Hi there. First time posting. I have had one EN episode and the nodules are slowly fading. I think it started late September. No underlying cause found but it's interesting that you should mention pregnancy/hormones being a factor. I'm still breastfeeding my 11month old and it has occured to me that my trigger could be hormonal..

Hello! I only had one outbreak of this and it was over 5 years ago,

just when I finished nursing my daughter and starting the pill. I

definitely felt it was hormonal as I also had hot flashes. No

underlying cause could be found.

My first bout of EN began while I was weaning my son and starting the

pill. I also developed Hashimoto's thyroiditis around this time, and

I had a really bad breast infection due to the weaning, and was put

on antibiotics. After 2 years of trying to figure out what caused my

EN, my rheumatologist thinks it was an unfortunate confluence of

events-- hormonal, drug/infection reaction, and autoimmune

hypothyroidism. I went off the pill and started thyroid medication,

but went on to have 2 more flare-ups of EN, each one worse than the

first. Shortly after my first flare-up began, we started a home

remodel project. Our contractor was horribly messy-- drywall dust

everywhere, and I'm sure mold spores as well, since we live in a very

damp area. I have severe allergies to drywall dust and mold, so I

think the exposure may have perpetuated the EN flare-ups. Allergy

testing confirmed that molds definitely cause EN bumps in me. After

enduring my 3rd bout of EN in 10 months and 9 months of prednisone, I

started on Plaquenil to try to quiet my immune system. Either the

completion of my house project or the Plaquenil stopped the EN in

it's tracks, but the joint pain took a while to resolve. I've been on

Plaquenil for almost a year, and I am cutting back my dose by 1/2.

So far so good. I'm a lot healthier than I was 2 years ago, and I

don't get joint pain or swelling anymore when I'm falling sick. I'm

keeping my fingers crossed, although, we are currently getting our

contractor back in the house to fix his messy work-- hopefully this

won't trigger another flare-up.
