I've had the symptoms for about a week and a half and it's awful. I am taking amoxycillin since my strep test came back positive. I am confused about why I'm being treated for strep to get rid of this. I was feeling significantly better 2 days ago so I was up walking around and doing things. Then that evening my ankles swelled back up terribly and the bruises looked awful. So now I'm couch bound again. I'm concerned about how long it's going to take for this to go away. Will taking amoxycillin really help me? Thank you for any advice you can offer.
Guest guest
No. I used to get strep throat a lot, like 3 or 4 times a year. It's been a while since I've gotten it, probably a couple of years. Nothing like this has ever happened to me when I've had strep. > > Is this the first time you've had Strep? > > ML Gemmill > EN 1975 > Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile > > Another new member > > > Hello, I was just diagnosed with EN 5 days ago. Guest guest
I stopped using antibiotics for my EN years ago as it wreeked havoc on my stomach and colon causing majoc issues such as Candida, spastic colon etc. You need to take probiotics if you are taking antibiotics that often.I always got Strep prior to an outbreak. Here are the things that worked wonderfully for me after 34 years of EN:Get your thyroid checked to see if your TSH 3 and 4 levels are off; if even by a little.Get a blood test to determine if you have ANY vitamin deficiencies; i was majorly deficient in all my skin vitamins. there are only a few labs that will do this and it usually costs out of pocket but it is well worth it. I am night and day healthier than I was since doing this and getting on track. Take care of your immun system by eating as healthy as possible. Finally for the pain and swellingn get Braggs Apple Cider vinegar and sponge your legs as often as possible. I used to drench paper towells with it and wrap my legs and elevate them. This is a huge relief if your legs get really hot like mine did. Mine often blistered from the heat.Since using Braggs organic Apple Cider Vinegar i have Not had a break out in many, many months which is a record for me! It is also great to drink as a health tonic. I drink 2-3 glasses everyday: 2tbl spoons in 10oz of purified water with organic honey or Maple syrup to taste. This really helps with endema and swelling as well as a hundred other benefits for helping the stomach and colon. Extra benefits are weight loss. : ) it cost about 4 bucks for a bottle.Sorry you got this most irritaying EN. I am hoping you try one of the above and post your experience!MLEN 1975Sent via BlackBerry from T-MobileFrom: "tams1728" Date: Fri, 02 Jan 2009 19:31:49 -0000To: <erythema_nodosum_Group >Subject: Re: Another new member No. I used to get strep throat a lot, like 3 or 4 times a year. Guest guest
I bought a small bottle of the Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar. I cannot even imagine drinking this. How much do I need per day? Could I just drink what is neccessary in a shot glass and just get it over with in one gulp? I do not like honey or maple syrup,so mixing it with that in a glass of water would be unbearable for me to drink. I do have to say my main issue is PG. In fact a couple of my EN lumps turned into PG. The site where I had the biopsy done 'was' EN but now it looks like PG. I see my Dr. this next Thursday.(I am just on Dapsone and folic acid right now.Not enough.) Sandy
Guest guest
I know a few people who drink it with water. You need anywhere from 1tbls - 2 tbl spoons in 10 oz of water and I would suggest drinking 3 times a day. Brush your teeth immediately after so you dont destroy youe enamel. I know it seems yucky at first but the benefits are overwhelming! Guest guest
Hello, once you start taking any antibiotic, its really important to take it for its ENTIRE course. if you dont finish it, the harmful bacteria wont be fully killed, and will then have the potential to learn how to be resistant to the antibiotic. if a person does this repeatedly it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of bacterial infections. so please continue to take the prescribed antibiotics!! also, you can get rid of EN if you dont first get rid of its cause. it will still likely take several weeks up to several months for the EN to fully go away. its been a rough battle for many of us EN sufferers (is that a word??) but it DOES get better. just rest as much as you can and dont push yourself. and you are lucky to know the cause of EN- many of us are still searching to understand why we got it. hang in there!!! Guest guest
Yes, but when you study the amazing benefits of drinking it as well you will be somewhat blown away once you've taken it orally as well. For some people they just cant stomach it beause of the taste. In that case I would say start small and build up. I have grown to love the taste and LOVE the internal benefits! Weight loss, great skin and hair, alleviates my arthritis, brusitis and capsulitis significantly. Topically it has healed my legs from EN scars. There are tons of reports you can find on the multiple benefits, but the proof is in giving it a 60 day trial. For me my lumps were gone in one week and the scars gone in two. It blew me away and my entire family who has witness my thirty something years of EN start drinking it right away.Best to you all in this New Year! Guest guest
I have had an entirely different experience. My doctor used to prescribe HUGE bottles of antibiotic for my EN. Never helped me. From 15-24 years of age I took them because doctors told me to. I just got sicker and sicker. And since doctors know very little about EN- even now it is always best to empower yourself with knowlege about holistic alternatives which not only alleviate the suffering, but prolong ones life. It is my opinion and the opinion of many that certain pharmaceuticals over a prolonged period of time are detrimental to internal organs and general health. This is just my opinion after almost 10 years of taking antibiotics and spending 20 years trying to rectify the damage to my colon. I, personally would only take antibiotics for a very short period of time. Certainly not everytime I had an EN outbreak. Again I respect everyones choice but having lived through it I prefer to deal with this EN in the most holistic way and I enjoy the empowerment of looking and feeling great having done so.Best,ML GemmillEN 1975Sent via BlackBerry from T-MobileFrom: O'Brien Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2009 15:25:58 -0800 (PST)To: <erythema_nodosum_Group >Subject: Re: Another new member Hello, once you start taking any antibiotic, its really important to take it for its ENTIRE course. if you dont finish it, the harmful bacteria wont be fully killed, and will then have the potential to learn how to be resistant to the antibiotic. if a person does this repeatedly it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of bacterial infections. so please continue to take the prescribed antibiotics!! also, you can get rid of EN if you dont first get rid of its cause. it will still likely take several weeks up to several months for the EN to fully go away. its been a rough battle for many of us EN sufferers (is that a word??) but it DOES get better. just rest as much as you can and dont push yourself. and you are lucky to know the cause of EN- many of us are still searching to understand why we got it. hang in there!!! Guest guest
ML,I'm so glad you wrote this email, I fear I wasn't clear. I agree with you- you cant just take antibiotics for EN. EN it itself isnt a bacterial infection, and thus wouldnt solve the problem. I only meant if you have a true bacterial infection, like MRSA, cdiff, strep, and your doc prescribes the meds, then its important to take the full course. I only mentioned it b/c somebody asked if the amoxcycillin was really important to take for her strep throat. I'm not a doctor. I do however work in a hospital and have spoken to docs about this. I have a friend who is a classic case of never finishing her antibiotics for infections and now they hardly ever work to get her better. its important to be your own doctor- research research research. look up scientific studies to see if what somebody tells you (i.e. not taking the full course of antibiotics!!) has been proven scientifically. I hear what you're saying about alternate approaches- keep im mind that not all doctors are 100% western mindset. many understand the science of our bodies but are also educated in holistic health. i also think that sometimes a drug may cause long term damage. its up to each of us to form our opinions and decide what medications we chose to take and not take. make your own choice absolutely!! Guest guest
Thanks ! Hi Sandy, I understand PG is crazy painful. And from the photos I have seen it seem unbearable. I admire anyone who deals with this. And I pray someday for a cure for all of us, but PG in particular as it deprives one of a full life. When I would break out with EN I could sleep 12-18 hours a day and I would still be tired. I can't tell you how many days this condition stole from me. I am determined to stay well because I have been robbed of way too much time. Finding Organic Apple Cider Vinegar was like finding the Holy Grail. I couldn't believe that a 4 dollar bottle of vinegar could dramatically relieve my EN. I was dumbfounded. So was my entire family. I have probably spent in the last 2 year over 14,000 in out of pocket medical expenses. So you can see why I was so surprised that this incredibly inexpensive thing could bring me such relief. And hopefully relief for others if it works as it has for me.I am posting one link I randomly found on Apple Cider Vinegar. I don't blame you for not wanting to put it on your wounds. Especially if they are anything like the wounds I saw on Wikipedia. Here's a suggestion if you are brave. To put a very small amount in a spritzer bottle with purified water and spray on one area and test it. If you notice some improvement build up more and test further. It might be the only way you can see and maybe help others. I would choose the smallest wound possible for testing. I understand if this might be too scary. I have been a guinea pig for myself for years desperately trying to find a healthy alternative. As far as drinking it orally- I highly recommend it. It too will help your skin.http://www.innvista.com/health/foods/fruits/appcider.htmThe vinegar will kill any bacteria almost immediately. It also slows bleeding. I use it on bites and scratches and cuts. When I first used it on my EN it hurt for about 10 seconds. Then I had amazing relief. Now I don't have open sores on my leg, I just got massive 8 inch diameter red hot nodules that would blister from the heat that they gave off. I could not walk without limping. And it felt like my leg as on fire. I could literally melt an ice pack in about 5 -10 minutes with the heat my legs produced. I don't know the science behind why ACV worked so well. Maybe it is the potassium, maybe something else. Not sure. I play this year to study it thoroughly because of how well it has worked on me. I was feelingsignificantly better 2 days ago so I was up walking around and doingthings. Then that evening my ankles swelled back up terribly and thebruises looked awful. So now I'm couch bound again.I'm concerned about how long it's going to take for this to go away. Will taking amoxycillin really help me? Thank you for any advice youcan offer. Guest guest
ML GemmillEN- 1975Writer - Creative Ideator ML,I'm so glad you wrote this email, I fear I wasn't clear. I'm glad you posted your ideas- its great to have discussions here and listen to other beliefs from our own. Guest guest
Sorry to keep hitting on the same issue but it is very important if you try ACV to use Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother in it. Buying the Heinz brand will not help at all and there is no nutritional value in it. My sister tried this and got sick. Once she switched she felt terrific.please check out www.bragg.com or call your local health food store and ask if they carry Braggs Apple Cider Vinegaralso I cut and pasted this comment bellow that might be helpful for some:As I started taking the ACV, my tummy problems really subsided-almost instantly. Then I started reaping even more benefits that I didn’t know were supposed to happen. My hair got super shiny and wasn’t falling out in huge clumps in the shower anymore. It also felt really clean the next morning (even after not showering since 7:00am the day before. It was winter and I wasn’t getting sweaty. Don’t think I’m a stinky piggy..oink,oink). My scalp had never felt so clean. Next, my skin! My God! My skin was so soft, glowing and rosy!AVC is said to also help allergies, sinus infections, sore throats, high blood pressure (I know this for a fact because it helped my hubby’s high BP) increased energy, any muscle pain, arthritis, asthma. The list goes on and on! For me, this is a miracle! We all need miracles…don’t we girls!!This is the hard part….ACV tastes awful. There are ways to make is more palatable. Try to take at least 2 tablespoons per day (I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night). You can mix it with honey and add it to a bottle of water. Sometimes, I put it in a shot glass, cover my nose, drink it really quick and then chase it with a cup of OJ.Anything that I can drink out of a shot glass makes me feel good for some reason. I also will add it to hot tea. It tastes pretty good with apple tea and honey. Add grape juice, OJ, ginger ale or any other juice or beverage that you like. The important thing is to get it down the hatch! You’ll get very creative! The health benefits are endless. ML GemmillEN- 1975Writer - Creative Ideator There is no way I could put apple cider vinegar on my PG sores.OWIE!Sandy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I have read that some people just soak the affected area w/it and dont drink it at all.... Guest guest
Thank you all for your help. I do plan to definitely take all of my antibiotics. The swelling in my ankles has gone done quite a bit over the last 36 hours or so but I am still in quite a bit of pain. I have done hardly anything but sit on the couch which is difficult with a 3 month old baby at home! I am just really hoping that I can at least walk for short periods of time by Monday. I just returned to work a few weeks ago from a 3 month long maternity leave and now I have been home again for the past week due to this! I'm sure my boss loves me right now!To: erythema_nodosum_Group Sent: Friday, January 2, 2009 5:25:58 PMSubject: Re: Another new member Hello, once you start taking any antibiotic, its really important to take it for its ENTIRE course. if you dont finish it, the harmful bacteria wont be fully killed, and will then have the potential to learn how to be resistant to the antibiotic. if a person does this repeatedly it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of bacterial infections. so please continue to take the prescribed antibiotics! ! also, you can get rid of EN if you dont first get rid of its cause. it will still likely take several weeks up to several months for the EN to fully go away. its been a rough battle for many of us EN sufferers (is that a word??) but it DOES get better. just rest as much as you can and dont push yourself. and you are lucky to know the cause of EN- many of us are still searching to understand why we got it. hang in there!!!
