Guest guest
For what it's worth,If someone says to me, What letter comes after "H," I don't go back to "A." If I couldn't remember exactly where "H" is, I would begin somewhere in between, and would recite to myself "G, H, I." or something like that. I would not start at the beginning, at A; I'd try to economize my time. This approach applies especially if someone says, "What comes after V."I'd take a short cut, which ironically is something that occurred to me when reading 's earlier post..Daneka From: Jennie Unknown <mossbtweenmetoes@ tds.net>Subject: Re: [aspires-relationsh ips] To: aspires-relationshi psyahoogroups (DOT) comDate: Friday, 23 May, 2008, 6:53 PM Wow, so are you saying NT people can remember things without following an order? Similar to the card analogy.... (I think).... if someone asks you what letter of the alphabet comes before 'h' can you just figure it out or do you have to start at 'A' and work your way to 'h'? Or is this totally different from what you are talking about? Shoot, I don't even know how to word this because it feels to me like the only way to remember something is to go in order. For me usually chronological order but occasionally I have an order all of my own. If I don't do things in that order I get confused and have to start over. Or whatever it is just doesn't get done right. For example I go through the grocery store a certain way, if someone messes up that order I have to go back to the beginning of my sequence and start over otherwise I can't remember what to do next. So if you don't do things in order how do you do it? Jennie -really wants to know. me here: hi jennie. the trip through the supermarket is what i do too. if i walk past the tomatoes and remeber later while still in the supermarket that i need tomatoes, i have to purchase what i have in my trolley go home first, drop off my shopping and then go back and get tomatoes. i cannot go back and get tomatoes as it mucks up my linearity of direction and thought. i have a VERY linear track of thought. if someone asks me what comes before H i go...A B C D E F G. i think we all do this as we are taught as kids to do this. what i am describing is that this links in a chain, linear links that are all connected. i have noticed that when i have to recall events instead of going along this long link of chains in my memory, that i have noticed side links between related events...that is related only to me. so for example..... .when someone says alexander the great. i think......beauceph alous ( the name of his horse) i then think beau is french for beatifull... ....and cephalous reminds me of a giant squid ( cephalopod). when i think beatifulll i think helen of troy........ which diverts my memory to a time when i read some guage of beauty as the ability to launch 1000 ships. i then guage the beauty of the woman i am looking at and decide she is a millihelen ( one thousandth of a helen) some are even less, i then think of stern, bow, forward castle, bridge and different parts of a ship. this may be blurted out as...what lovely eyes you have, like a squid, i could catch of the bow of a large boat. this leads to perserverating an ddistraction, usually by noise but more often by my own thoughts, if i cant make a connectio between something i will get stuck, inertia, and try to link things in my mind, this can take a long time. thw solution? how one deals with it is a personal choice, and i think with time this can be learned. this afternoon i was driving home and i thought of my neighbour who drove of the other morning and did a squeelie and woke me at 5:30.. i was thinking about different ways i could extract revenge without gettign caught...remember i am also a forensic scientist... thsi lead to some inventive links, and i decided that if i could plant a home made nuclear bomb under his car i would need a pretty high sun screen, but i had to abandon my thoughts for two reasons. first no where sells factor 30,000000 sun screen and i told myself it was time to shut up. 36 diagnosed AS [aspires-relationsh ips] Lorelie: I agree a great post by . Have U ever seen the movie Silent Fall? Great thriller with a great surprise ending? It is the story about a daughter and a younger bother whose parents were brutally murdered and they believe the autistic brother who was very young saw or did it himself. They bring in this professional who works with kids like him for advice and guidance. At one point he is giving the sister a history of how we have treated folks with autism throughout the years and tells her NO ONE knows what it is, but we know how it works and he laid out a suit of cards from Ace to King. I did this at an IEP meeting and it was awesome. He pointed to the Ace and said folks without autism who move up the chain have memories that are linked to the five senses. Sometimes it is a sight, smell, touch, sound, etc., that can our trigger memory. If the person with autism's chain get's broken while they are moving to the King, they have to start all over again from the Ace as that is how they process information. It has been years since I have seen this movie so may have the wording wrong. The school psychologist picked up the rest of the deck and sorted the cards and said not only does Cass process this way evident by all the testing we have done, he is jumping suits faster than we can keep up with him. It was a good visual demonstration of one who thinks and stores information in chains. Just me. Guest guest
that is of how my mind set goes too one thinking that to me triggers a related to me thinking but seems disconnected to others. but to me it is of a vicious cycle that can get me stuck within self for a long time. I to write of that way too at times. but for me like of jennie I to have to go back to A before can know what comes before H and same with numbers cannot verbally just script out a phone number my brain has to visualize my hand on the phone key pad of numbers and see of my hand movements to know of the pattern of movement my hand does to know the number. But if I to forget of tomatoes being linear or not I to have to get them now as I to HATE to transtion out of my home more than I to need to for chore like things as it takes too much out of me. I to can be to only transition out of the home if the transition reward is in place and that if to get a soda and then transtion to whatever i to be going to such as a movie or things. tonight I to went to see of indiana jones new movie but it to me was of way too much loud so it was hard for me to focus to it well. but I to liked of seeing the early symbols of languagesd and mystery maps and things of that and the artifacts and things of this so did want of to see of this show for that reasons. I to think too this is of why I to like of my computer because it is of consistent language for me and it lets me type out faster than can speak of the words in verbal thinking and timing. It to me is verbally and linear. But the odd is I to stillneed to watch of my fingers type out the words more than watch the words formed on the screen but then I to scan it and make of sure i to did my best and the odd is that if I to look at the screen will make of more mistakes then if looking at the fingers at the key board. I to been also discovering that I to visualize self movements and navigating things and so when I to need to do it again the memory goes to this scripted visual movie of just me in a odd fashions navigating of self and can feel the body of which way it turned in a hallway and or seeing of the hands pushing a button for elevator for the floor I to need. So it is of like I to have a visual echoing of my own actions and or movements that gets transfered as a visual moving memory . I to learn less if others do things for me. I to nto learn so much by imiation but by doing it for self. Sondra

Guest guest
and everyone, N is Letter # 14, and Letter # 13 is M. I would not use the Alphabet Song at all! I do presidents the same way: I have them all memorized by number, so if you asked me who came before Woodrow , I would figure the answer the same way-- try it! No fair looking online!
