Guest guest
Hi everyone, My husband and I just got back from a little camping trip. Part of the fun was having good friends join us. My best friend (who I’ve known since we were 12 and that’s way too many years to admit to) and her husband made the trip with us. Yesterday we biked 27.5 miles which is about 10 miles more than I’ve ever done before. Wisconsin has wonderful bike trails that are on abandoned railroad beds (with the tracks removed, of course) so we don’t have to worry about cars and other traffic. One of the highlights of the trail we were on was going through a railway tunnel. It was nearly a mile long and so dark you couldn’t see without a flashlight and walking bikes through is required. On this particular trail, it’s slightly uphill to the tunnels which can be a challenge, but going down on the other side is wonderful. Unfortunately, we had 10 miles of uphill to do again when we turned around to go back. Well, I made it back sweaty and completely out of breath, but a little ’s last night did wonders. We were still giggling at midnight (yes, even the men) while we were making shadow animals though the nylon tent wall. It was almost like a sleep-over back in junior high. All in all, I managed to get through the damp nights, smoke from the campfire, lack of sleep, and an exhausting work-out without too many ill effects. Guest guest
, It’s funny that you mentioned needing the light at the end of the tunnel. When I finally saw that little pin prick of light and watched it grow, I was overcome by the meaning of those words. I thought about how wonderful it would be to have that feeling with this disease—that each day could be a little better than the last, that set backs can be used for something to learn and grow from, and that yes we can live with it. Maybe everyone should try walking through a tunnel. It’s quite an experience.
