Barb,

How much of your lung was removed? My husband's cousin's husband had a resection or lobe removed and he was completely cured. I do not remember the details as it has been about 20 years ago.

Norma,

My right middle lobe was removed. However, the surgeon said that there was

“leakage of infection” into other areas of my lung and the

infections continued although not nearly as bad as they had been. I’m not sure if he meant that the infection

actually leaked during surgery or if it had spread before that—I was a

little out of it when he was explaining things to me. I had had pneumonia in my left lung

before that and I have other damaged areas now. I don’t get as many high fevers as

I used to, but I still cough up green and bloody gunk (though not nearly as

much as before), am always extremely fatigued, and hurt all the time. I am glad that I had the resection done,

but I don’t think I’d like to do it again.

Barb,

Thanks for the information about your lung resection. I was just curious since my husband's cousin's husband was totally cured by surgery. I wonder if it was because it was caught in the early stages. I am still upset with my allergist and primary care doctor (an internal medicine specialist) who would not refer me to a pulmonologist when I requested. My insurance required a referral so I was unable to go to a pulmonary doctor without having to pay out of pocket. They blamed my coughing on allergies which contributed to asthma, bronchitis and sinusitis. As I recall, others in this group have had the same experience.
