Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm, Thursday evenings

Drama therapists use processes and techniques from the theatre to help clients

heal,

grow, access their creativity, and tolerate change.

Engaging in play with others incorporating movements and roles in scenes,

clients

often find their lives transforming beyond what they have been able to achieve

through

traditional talk therapy.

In the State of New York, drama therapists practice psychotherapy as Licensed

Creative

Arts Therapists (LCAT).

Workshops are being offered in January/February 2008 and April 2008 in

preparation

for the Drama Therapy Master's Degree Program for which the Blanton-Peale

Institute

is applying to the New York State Department of Education. These workshops are

designed to help individuals who are curious about drama therapy as a career

decide

whether or not to enroll in the two-year program in order to obtain licensure

and

become professional drama therapists. Individuals who want to learn about

various

forms of drama therapy but have no plans to study drama therapy further are also

welcome to take one of these workshops.

Fred Landers, MA, RDT-BCT, LCAT, is Director of the Drama Therapy Program at

Blanton-Peale Institute. Fred has used drama therapy with adults recovering

from mental illness

and/or chemical dependency, military veterans with a history of violence since

their

return from military service, children and adolescents with problem sexual

behavior,

and middle school adolescents with emotional issues. He has published on his use

of therapeutic play to prevent harmful behavior. He has taught drama therapy in

the U.S., Canada, Japan, and South Korea.
