Guest guest
Barb, The last time I used Guaifenex G 1200 mg was a year ago. My prescription expired on 05/27/2003. I asked my pulmonary doctor to give me that prescription. I told him that my allergist had given me the prescription before I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Since it has been over a year since I took it, I do not remember if it helped. My pharmacist said that I could get Mucinex 600 mg twice a day and would get the same results. It does not require a prescription but needs to be picked up at the pharmacy. However, I just noticed on the prescription for Guaifenex G 1200 that I took it twice daily. It would appear that I would need to take four Mucinex 600 mg tablets to equal the Guaifenex G 1200 tablets that was prescribed twice daily. I called Sam's Club Pharmacy and received a price quote of $16.00 for 40 tablets. I will call Costco and find out what their price is, and Sam's Club will match their price. Since I no longer have a prescription drug plan, I do not know what the Guaifenex G 1200 CR Tablets would cost. You might want to ask your doctor if he/she thinks that it will help thin the mucus. I have a lot of nasal drainage today since the mold count has been high here the last week since it rained here all but 10 days in June. After the rain when the sun returns the mold count is high. I have been out running errands the last two days and with the wind and the high mold count, I have problems in the early morning with sinus congestion and after sinus irrigation my sinuses drain down into my lungs. I hope that this is not too confusing. Norma
Guest guest
, Guaifenesin in the generic name for a prescription pill call humibid. If you get relief from the cough syrup, maybe your doctor will prescribe the stronger prescription medicine. Barb cough syrup Hi everyone, I was inquiring about the main ingredient in cough medicine that does all the work and was told it was " guaifenesin " . So I found some medicine with only this ingred. and it helped me whenever I want to clear my respiratory system. I copied the description from the Mayo Clinic website, in case you were interested., Hope this helps someone. It does me., Guaifenesin (gwye-FEN-e-sin) is used to help coughs caused by colds or similar illnesses clear mucus or phlegm (pronounced flem) from the chest. It works by thinning the mucus or phlegm in the lungs. Some guaifenesin preparations are available only with your doctor's prescription. Others are available without a prescription; however, your doctor may have special instructions on the proper dose of guaifenesin for your medical condition. Guaifenesin is available in the following dosage forms: _________________________________________________________________ Get fast, reliable Internet access with MSN 9 Dial-up - now 2 months FREE! http://join.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200361ave/direct/01/
Guest guest
Norma, They’re always changing things to make them more expensive. Have you used it recently and, if so, has the change helped? Guest guest
Norma, I stopped using humibid two years ago after my lung surgery. I used it for nearly four years before that but since I was having so many problems, I don’t know if it really helped or not. It’s so much easier when there is a noticeable difference with meds. It has been raining here forever, too. We’ve also had unseasonably cool weather. My doctor said recently that people with lung problems have more breathing difficulties when it rains—that’s no surprise here. I did, however, pass that information on to a parent of a child in my room at work when she mentioned her son had been wheezing quite a bit over the weekend and she had to give him his inhaler.
