Guest guest
Hi It can vary. You can feel run down, a cough that wasn't there before, fevers ( fevers will rise at night a lot of times when your having a flare ) HAve they done a sputum sample? I would suggest they do one ASAP as soon as you could cough something up. Especially when your sick the next time. Make sure your not on any anti's before you do it. Patients with bronchiectasis can develop colonized infections meaning the bacteria, mould, and other bugs are always there but not always causing a flare up. Its when the bacterial counts get really high that you develop outward signs of infection. Patients with bronchiectasis are prone to bacteria like H. Flu, Staph areus, and pseudomonas . Pseudo can cause a lot of problems and cause more and more lung damage if not treated properly. The best thing for you to do is stay very very active and always keep an eye on any infection that might be starting. I also always have them print a copy of my PFT's out so that I can tell if my lung function is dropping. BeckiLife is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.Listed for Lungs 1/19/04 at Mayo Clinic ville,Fla.YOUNGLUNG EMAIL SUPPORT LISThttp://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/YOUNGLUNG/Pediatric Interstitial Lung Disease Societyhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/InterstitialLung_Kids/
Guest guest
Does anyone have any scarring as a result of bronchiectasis? I was curious of anyone else CT showed any scarring. I have some mild linear scarring on both upper lobes. I always associate scarring with ILD or Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Guest guest
Becki, Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose thats why my Pulmonologist stated that I didnt have ILD. The CT stated that there was dialated Bronchi and some mild scarring. Thanks again. Im curious... how will I know when I have infections? I don't have a cough that is typically associated with this disease. Maybe tired ansd run done feeling/low grade fevers? > Hello > No, scarring is very common. Guest guest
Hi.. Nope, no sputum sample yet....probably because I dont have any cough watsoever. Couldnt detect anything in my lungs by listening either. I try to stay active during the week by running 2.5-3 miles a day 3 or 4 days a week and drinking tons of water. I usually take it easy during the weekend. I keep a eye on my o2 levels while at rest and during excercise. I cant remember the last time I felt even remotely sick, but must have been somewhere down the line. > Hi > It can vary. Guest guest
Hi Mike, Welcome to the group. I was interested to see in your e-mail that you keep a check on your oxygen levels. Now everyone else in this group probably knows how to do this but I have no idea. How can you do this? Is there something we can buy so we can keep a check on it at home? . Guest guest
, Yes.. there is a Finger Pulse Oximeter can you can buy for approx 260 - 280$ depending on where you buy it. I bought one for 260$ on ebay (brand new). The best brand is made by Nonin (model 9500). This is the same one used by most Doc's. It is a little expensive but is nice to have. It displays Heart Rate and O2 saturation. I tried to get my Insurance to pay for it but they said its not necesary until O2 is under 88%. Kinda silly I think. So.... had to shell out the money for mine. My O2 drops from 98 at rest to 93-94 during running. I suppose its not to bad for running 3 miles. They tell me that its really suppose to stay at 98 and should increase during excercise. > > > Hi > > > It can vary. Guest guest
Thanks for that Mike. I will talk to my doctor and see if she thinks I should get one. Is there anyone else in this group that has one? Re: bronchiectasis + scarring > , > > Yes.. there is a Finger Pulse Oximeter can you can buy for approx > 260 - 280$ depending on where you buy it.
