Karin,

I was surprised to read that you are a sign language

interpreter. My daughter took ASL

as her foreign language in college.

I thought you might enjoy the recent story that she told me. She’s in grad school and still

works in the University day care center.

Her director came around and asked if anyone knew sign language. said she

knew it but it had been several years since she used it. The director led her to a couple of hearing

impaired women who had come for a tour and left her with them without giving

any information about tour expectations.

said that all went

pretty well except for having to ask them to slow down quite often. She taught me a phrase that I have used

often over the years—“I need chocolate”.

A very important sentence, Barb!! ;) I've been interpreting in the

school I'm at now for four years, and I love it. I never want to

leave. I love the kids (most of them) and I love my coworkers.
