Guest guest
hi norma, roger was 55 when he was diagnosed. your body aches could be fibromyalgia~a form of arthritis. jennifer in sunny and warm nanaimonor236@... wrote: Has anyone else in this group been diagnosed with bronchiectasis after age 60? I have arthritis, but my whole body aches some days especially when the weather changes or when I am extremely fatigued. I know that I need a new mattress but if that were the reason for the aches, I would feel that way every morning. I will ask my pulmonary doctor Wednesday but always like to check with those who have this disease. Thanks for your response
Guest guest
, Thanks for your information. I do have osteoarthritis and whenever the temperature changes, I will sometimes notice more aches. We had a weak cool front come in a few days ago. My father and two of his brothers had rheumatoid arthritis. That has been ruled out by my primary care doctor, rheumatologist and infectious disease doctor. I have been extra stressed this past week, and I think that stress lowers our immune system. I have also been having bad sinus headaches this past week but no infection. I talked to my cardiologist's nurse this past week, and she was also having bad sinus headaches. I do know that the change in barometric pressure, that occurs whenever the weather changes, can precipitate sinus pressure. I think that mine is due to too much stress and not enough rest, but always like to hear what others experience. Thanks for sharing your experience. Guest guest
Barb, Did you notice what brand it was? We have always bought the Sealy brand. The ones that we have now are firm, but I was planning to buy the plush this time as my bones and joints are getting older. Norma
Guest guest
Hi Norma, My lung problems began in childhood. Essentially, I have atypical CF and restrictive lung disease. However, my CF lung problems were later onset childhood with a first pneumonia at the age of 11 years. This set the course for future infections, and so on. You body aches may actually be associated with lung infections. In CF, patients and I assume (not sure) for persons with CF-like lung disease lung infections are associated with a pulmonary or CF-related arthritis. For instance when my MRSA was at its worst, my joints ached terribly (I also have pain assoicated with other lung infections, but MRSA was the worst.). Joint pain is for me often a precursor to a lung infection. My hips are the worst, but I do generally have aches and pains all over. It can be so bad some days that walking is almost unbearable. Besides the antibiotics, a hot bath is helpful for my joints. My joints also are stiff during these excerbations. Between infections my joints are fine. I have noticed that once IV antibiotics have had a good few days to a week to start to work my joint pain lessens. During this time I do try to keep moving, as it's important for the joints, but sometimes impossible when I’m really sick and in hospital. Generally, I am on IV antibtioics for 10-14 days and sometimes longer. Hope this Helps:0) ===== ) " Miracles happen with love..... " ..... Guest guest
Norma, I always get achy when I have an infection. Sometimes a backache is my first symptom, but I get aches in all my joints. It’s interesting that mentioned using a foam mattress. We just got back from an afternoon at our State Fair where I got to try out a foam mattress and thought that I’d really like one. My son got one because of back problems and he really likes his. Barb Age of Onset of Bronchiectasis and Body Aches Has anyone else in this group been diagnosed with bronchiectasis after age 60? Guest guest
When I was in hospital recovering from a hysterectomy, the nurse asked me if I would like an " egg crate " ? It is a light weight foam mattress about two inches thick and looks like the cardboard egg crates you buy eggs in. It is placed over the mattress and under the sheet. It will make any bed feel so wonderfully comfortable. I brought it home with me (since I had paid for it) and put it on the bed in my guest room. Everyone who has slept in that bed has commented on how comfortable the bed is. Here in the States they are really inexpensive . I bought a larger on for around $ 25.00 three years ago. in Ca. Guest guest
I have an egg crate type foam cover on my mattress, but it no longer seems to help. The mattress on my bed was purchased in 1983 and is a firm mattress which is what they recommended at that time. I think I am overdue for a new mattress and box spring set now. I also had one of the egg crate foam toppers when I had my breast cancer surgery in 1989 and brought it home from the hospital. My son's friends who stayed overnight would use it with a sleeping bag since it fit a hospital size bed. If I purchase my mattress before August 12, I will get a tax rebate from the store. I am looking forward to better sleeping soon. I would like one of those adjustable beds, but they cost over $1,000. Thanks for your advice. Guest guest
norma and everyone, we don't have a box spring. we have a pine bed frame with wooden slats on the base and the foam mattress sits on the slats. very basic and as i have said, very comfortable. a comfortable and supportive mattress is essential for a good night's rest. jennifernor236@... wrote: I have an egg crate type foam cover on my mattress, but it no longer seems to help. Guest guest
, I just purchased a plush Sealy Posturepedic mattress and box spring this afternoon to be delivered Friday. After spending three hours in the dentist's office with two fillings and preparation for a crown this morning and getting an allergy shot and purchasing a mattress and box spring this afternoon, I should be sleeping like a queen soon. I almost went to sleep trying out the mattresses. My husband arrived in Paris at 9:00 a.m. this morning and will spend five days there and on to London for seven days. I have so many crowns in my mouth that I could be queen of many countries. Thanks for your advice. Norma

Guest guest
, I saw my pulmonologist this morning for a routine checkup and asked him about my body aches, headache and general feeling of being ill. I told him that I rushed to call a large group of neighbors about a meeting and watered our large yard one day last week. He said, "Remember, you are living with an infection. You need to pace yourself and learn to say No to people asking for volunteer help." I forgot to ask him for a prescription that I can show my husband. When I go back in three months, I will ask him for it and post it on the refrigerator. I also emailed the man who asked me to make the calls and told him that after I called two lists last March, I developed pneumonia and had to go to the hospital. Yesterday he emailed me again and asked me to call another list of people, and I told him that I could no longer do this as it jeopardizes my health. I think that my new mattress will help, but I need to learn to rest more. Perhaps the new mattress will make me want to take an afternoon nap. Guest guest
You know Norma, I get tired of explaining to other people what my health problem is when I just do not feel that great and am unable to " help out " . Personally I don't think they want to understand. Unfortunately when you look fairly well on the outside, it is hard for people who enjoy good health to comprehend the symptoms of Bronchiectasis with Pseudomonas infection. A friend of mine who died recently with lung cancer was married to a Psychiatrist who gave her this advice. The only way you can get out of giving volunteer help is to be very specific. Just say in a pleasant voice, " I am very sorry, I wish I could help, but I do have a health problem and do not want to do it. " Other excuses do not work as well. in Ca. Guest guest
, Thanks for your advice. I spoke with the president of our neighborhood association today and told him how I developed a low grade fever, glands in neck hurt, had a headache and overall body aches the day and a few days after I called the list he gave he last week. I told him what my doctor said. Then he said, "The next time I will give you more time to do the calling." I said that I have to take care of my health and that is what the doctor said. He then said that he wished that they could find a cure for my illness. I agreed with him, but said that I have learned what I can and cannot do to stay feeling reasonably well, and I must follow the doctor's orders. I felt proud of myself for finally being assertive. I appreciate everyone's advice. Tonight I will be able to sleep in my new bed so am hoping for a restful night. Norma in TX
