Guest guest
Hi , What type of helmet is a wearing? I'd have to agree with what said. If the helmet is moving around so much as to cover ears or eyes that is not a good thing. Some looseness at the beginning, however, is normal. That will get better as your baby grows and " fills in " her helmet. As for the sweating, that actually does get a little better. Just be prepared in the summer months to start up the car and cool it down before taking a out there and plan on going to air conditioned places. Dress her lightly and skip the socks whenever possible. Run a fan in her room at night or in whatever room she is playing in to keep her cool. It's prefectly fine to take the helmet off periodically to dry it off as well as dry off a's head. Hang in there - it just gets easier and easier! Guest guest
Hi. My son wears a helmet similar to a bike helmet. It was made a Toronto Sick Kids Hospital in Ontario,Canada. His helmet tends to " twist " as well. I usually re-adjust it when it goes over the ear.Usually when he wakes from sleeping. Our ortho told us this is normal due to the head not being round. It will tend to shift over to the flat side & as the head reshapes itself it will no longer do that. Makes sense to me.I also wash it with a damp cloth & antibacterial soap 2-3 times a day as well his head too.If it gets too hot;I take the helmet off for a bit;wipe him & helmet off use rubbing alcohol sometimes & put it right back on. Having it on during sleep is most important due to the fact that the baby will lay on the flatspot & not on highspot. With helmet on;as baby lays on their back the helmet is round & therefore they are not laying on the flatspot & the helmet " works " on pushing over the highspot over to flatspot. Hope that this is making sense to you.The helmet works with pressure;as you apply it;the pressure is then applied to head. The helmet is molded to your childs head & will only fit your child. The casting for was a plaster cast done of his head & then 2wks later we picked up the helmet. Don't be afraid to ask your ortho any question. Be sure to write them down before you go. Remember no question is a dumb question. Also ask your ortho is they have email..this is a good way to communicate with them especially if you are from out of town. A good ortho will provide you all or as much info as you need...just ask them or the receptionist. Our appts for re- adjustments are every 4wks.Not all that bad considering we live 5 hrs away from Toronto. I do know that the bands are different for that part of it. Not really sure on the timeline for adjustments or how they work but I think its the same principle. All kids are different for progress. got his helmet at 9mos and was 1cm off for facial assymetry. That is now corrected as well as the bossing on the forehead;now we are waiting for the back to round itself out more. Hope that this info has helped you out some.
