Guest guest
dear reagan, what a roller coaster of a day you've had. yes, maggie is a fighter and i hope that all our prayers have made her stronger. thank you so much for taking the time to keep us posted......much appreciated. as always, love and prayers to all of you. jennifer in canadaMaggie wrote: This morning Maggie crashed and her family and I were called up to the hospital and we were basically told to say goodbye to her. Her stats were sinking, her lungs were stiffening with the weight of the infection, her blood pressure was dangerously low and her CO2 was too high. It was the hardest day of my life and we spent the better part of the morning crying together in her room. However, ultimately, she showed what a fighter she is and her stats came back up and amazingly she stablized. She stayed stable for the rest of the day, and her CO2 levels finally started trending downward. We realized that the only real chance she has was to get a lung transplant, but the doc told us it was very unlikely a transplant surgeon would even consider taking her on in her condition with the amount of infection present. To our amazement, later in the day we received the news that she was accepted by two different transplant doctors... one in Dallas (Baylor Hostpital) and in San (University Hospital). Since her lungs are shot and she has little hope of any meaningful recovery as things stand, we were ecstatic that we had another chance, even if it's a long shot. The idea is that if she's accepted as viable transplant patient, and the matching is right, they'll remove both of her infected lungs, and she'll receive one of her mother's good healthy lungs. We are hoping for and working toward University since its a top lung transplant center, but we'll take what we can get.In truth, even though the road to a successful transfer (via HaloFlight) to another city and a lung transplant that survives rejection issues is very long fraught with possibilities for disappointment and failure, if it is successful, not only might she live, but she would finally be granted a chance of living a life without being plagued by breathing and coughing problems. This morning I assumed I'd be working on funeral arrangements tonight, so I'm actually buoyed by this turn of events, even with it being the long shot that it is. She's still alive for now and will hopefully be at a major medical center in the next day or so where she has a shot at the best medical care.So we're thanking God for the reprieve and hoping for the best. That's the story for now... Guest guest
Hi Reagan, I'm so sorry to hear of the latest crisis with Maggie, but thank God she has pulled through and things are looking brighter. My prayers will continue for Maggie. I pray that she will remain stable and be strong enough to have the transplant with the best medical care. I will pray for Maggie's Mum to have strength, as she prepares to be a donor for Maggie. Thanks so much for keeping us posted, Reagan, you have so much to cope with right now. You are a truly remarkable family, and my thoughts are with all of you. Please give my love to Maggie. Love Bunny
