Guest guest
June, 70 hour weeks will NOT be helping your illness. Rest is a major part of recovery – especially when you have an infection like you do now. If you try to do too much, fatigue will set in, and you’ll start all over again. It can be a vicious cycle really. That’s one of the reasons I’m careful to pace myself. I only do what I feel capable of at any given time. One of the things I do, if I feel a big ‘clogged’ – is jump in the shower with the water as hot as I can stand it. The steam loosens up the mucus. It may not work immediately, but certainly within about thirty minutes max. It really can help. So can having saline nebulisers instead of ventolin. Sometimes the Ventolin drags us down as much as the illness. But saline doesn’t do that; instead it helps loosen the muck. You need to check with your doctor first. I so look forward to logging on each morning to see my post. This has become one of the better points of the day. I was supposed to go out last night to see a band play but was too ill, (so disappointed,) instead hubby got a bottle of brandy and a hot curry delivered and we had a nice night in. I'm lucky he is so understanding about all this. This morning the curry has worked and I coughed up nicely so already feel this is going to be a better day. I'm starttng to realise that if I start the day bad then I'm going to be bad all day. Next week I am having an allergy test (does that hurt, I'm a bit needle phobic)so maybe they will be able to tell what is making me so bad. I hope the sea air when we go on holiday will help. I'm bringing my nebuliser to the USA and we have bought a step transformer for the voltage but it has 3 pins on the plug. I'm sure when we went last time all the plugs were 2 flat pins? Why don't we have a standard system worldwide, it would be much easier Someone mentioned rest well that is a bit of a problem, we run our own business and a 70 hour week is not unusual for us. It's frustrating me that I have to spend so much time nebulising and coughing up, at least I can nebulise while I use my computer! Was really interested in the post from Mis Goober girl re Locumin the new anti mucus drug, can't wait for that to be available? Guest guest
June, I am glad that you have an understanding hubby. The support of family and friends is so helpful. You mentioned in another post about having allergy tests. I have taken allergy shots for about five years and have been tested about three times. They do not hurt. I am now on maintenance shots which means that I do not have to go in for an allergy shot as often. It has helped me as I am allergic to mold, and the mold is much higher here in Texas than it was in the midwestern part of the U.S. where I had lived prior to moving to Texas. I hope the allergy shots help you as much as they have helped me. When I flew to Chicago last August, I called the airline and asked them if I needed a note from the doctor about my nebulizer and medications that I would be taking with me on the plane. They suggested that I get a note signed by my doctor about any breathing equipment that I would be carrying on the plane with me. I was pulled aside at O'Hare Airport in Chicago when we went through security on our return trip to Austin. They asked me what the compressor (nebulizer) was. I showed them the note from my doctor on a prescription form indicating what the nebulizer compressor and nebulizer kits were used for. The note from my doctor indicated my diagnosis of bronchiectasis. After they read the note from my doctor, they indicated that I could proceed to board the plane. Guest guest
June, I also carry with me a nasal spray solution that I prepare at home in a small spray bottle. I have chronic pseudomonas sinusitis along with asthma and have a machine that I irrigate my sinuses with twice daily. An ear, nose and throat surgeon in California makes his own powder that I purchase at an allergy store. I add 1/4 tsp. of the powder to boiled water that has cooled. I put some in the spray bottle and the rest in the refrigerator that can be kept in the refrigerator for two weeks. It is much less expensive than buying the saline at the pharmacy. In my sinus irrigator machine, The Grossan Hydro Pulse Nasal/Sinus Irrigation System, I use 1/2 teaspoon of uniodized salt and a pinch of baking soda per cup of water at 100 degrees. You can use a cooking thermometer to check the temperature. I had previously tried using a baby ear syringe and a Neti Pot with the saline solution without much success. Sinus drainage can drain down into the lungs and cause more mucus in the lungs. The nasal spray washes away the allergens in the nasal passages. Guest guest
June, Nearly all the electrical outlets in the U.S. are 3 pronged now—two flat prongs and one round prong—so you should be fine with your transformer. Guest guest
June, I don't know if this helps everyone, but it does help me. I carry around with me a saline nasal spray and constantly spray my nostrils. It's not a cureall but it seems to also help my lungs. It can't hurt to try it. > >Reply-To: bronchiectasis >To: bronchiectasis >Subject: Todays another day >Date: Sat, 22 May 2004 06:48:41 -0000 > >Thank you everyone for your help and encouragment yesterday >when I was having a really bad day.
