POSITION TITLE: Recreational Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Home Services

REPORTS TO: Program Director of Family

Resources

OBJECTIVE:

Work collaboratively with all teams throughout

Home Services in creating, executing individual and

group recreational activities that address clinical

needs, promote learning and provide a positive outlet

for young people in crisis. The activities will

simultaneously provide respite for foster parents and

serve to prevent disruptions, hospitalizations and

“step ups” to congregate care settings.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Provide clinical assessments as well as individual,

group and family treatment to children and families

• Identify individual and group recreational

activities available for young people in their

communities that address identified clinical needs

• Enroll the young person in the identified community

activity and monitor the individual’s progress in the

identified activity

• Secure the appropriate parental consents and ACS

approvals needed in order for young people to

participate in the identified activity

• Collaborate with the families and FHS’ teams in

identifying specific individual and group recreational

needs within Home Services

• Design, integrate and coordinate individual and

group recreational programs that meet the identified

needs of Home Services

• Conduct Home Visits and attend Court Hearings as

needed

OTHER TASKS:

• Document in the family’s case record the

individual’s attendance and participation in the

identified recreational program

• Educate staff on the availability of individual and

group recreational programs available in the community

and FHS and how they can be accessed for JCCA families

• Attend weekly Program Meetings, Team Meetings and

Case Conferences

• Provide coverage for teams during crisis periods

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Flexible work schedule required (Evenings and

weekends required)

• Knowledge of the Child Welfare System

• Computer and writing skills

• Masters Degree or Bachelors degree with appropriate

licensure, i.e. CRTS or LCAT

• Bilingual Spanish preferred
