Guest guest
In all honesty, don't get a DBA and/or Tax ID # until you are making sufficient $ in your private practice, as you will be expected to pay estimated taxes quarterly from now on. You can always print up a receipt, which is legitimate to give to you clients. As long as you claim all of your earnings as a practitioner during tax time yearly, then you're in the clear and doing nothing wrong (legally). Guest guest
I have a small private practice and I believe I need a tax ID number for clients to be reimbursed. Where and how can I obtain a tax ID number? Thanks very much, Mechelle Chestnut, LCAT Music Therapist
Guest guest
Hi, : As I recall, you can get a tax ID by going online at IRS.gov They have a search window on the home page of the site and you can type it in. In fact, I wanted to be sure I was giving you the right information, so I looked it up—here’s the link: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,,id=96696,00.html You’ll need to submit a form (W-7) and as I remember, I think I did it all online. It’s really easy to do. Technically, you can use your social security number, but definitely definitely go ahead and get the tax ID. The last thing you want is for clients to be running around with that information on their forms. Guest guest
I think you are thinking of a NPI ID number. You give that to clients so that they may be reimbursed by their insurance carriers. You need to go to the NPI ennumerator website and register. I know there was a direct addy for the one we used in our NYCCAT bulletin a few months back and instructions on which service to list. I did a quick search and didn't see that one, you may have more luck. It takes a few weeks to process. If you can't find the site email me privately and I will see if I can locate it. Guest guest
You do not have to put your ss# on receipts handed to clients. You only do that if you are submiting to insurance companies directly since they (ins. co) use the ss# to report your 1099 earnings to IRS. For client receipts you put all your credentials and then any license numbers. Tax ID number is not necessary unless for any reason you prefer one. Guest guest
HI RENEE! I was just excited to see that you're on NYCCAT too! My old supervisor from my internship helped me sign up recently. Nice to see a familiar name in the group too! I hope your summer is treating you well! Have fun and see you soon! -Danny Ng > Hi, : > As I recall, you can get a tax ID by going online at IRS.gov > They have a search window on the home page of the site and you can type it > in.
