Guest guest
Hi everyone, Here are some details about my June 7 Mythic Journey workshop, called "The Mythology of Place, the Landscape of Life." It will offer the same relaxed, creative, and enjoyable community experience that the 4-session workshop did this past month. If you know of anyone else who might be interested, I'd be grateful if you forwarded this announcement to them. t Bruce Arts for Life ---------------------------------- "The Mythology of Place; the Landscape of Life" 6 - 7:45 p.m., Thursday, June 7 19 W. 34th St., Suite 1200, NYC 10001 (half block east of Herald Square. N,W,R,Q,F,V,B,D trains) $35.00 facilitated by t Bruce, Ph.D. Every narrative form -- stories, films, plays, dance, even painting (think of Hopper!) -- makes strong use of setting to illuminate the characters' inner states. Images, sounds, shapes, colors, qualities of light and shadow, and other figures reflect the dramas being played out within them. In life, we do the same. Think of the environments, both external and internal, that you live in or pass through each day. What are their qualities? Who moves through them with you? What are the atmospheres of your day? How does what you surround yourself with mirror your internal environment? Where are the openings you're meant to move toward? This workshop will explore setting through writing (and maybe another art form). You'll have the opportunity to share your observations and hear those of other participants (always a magical and nourishing experience), and perhaps to gain some new insights about the world you are creating. For writers and other artists who want to refine or energize their own creative process, creative arts therapists and teaching artists looking for interesting new approaches, and anyone interested in exploring the psychic meaning of landscapes in their own life. Space is still available but limited to 10 people. Registration is required. To register or obtain more information about my approach and creative process, please leave a voice mail at , ext. 341 or write me at juliet@.... Some books you might find interesting, which have inspired this session: The Songlines, by Bruce Chatwin -- The lyrical creation mythology of Australian aboriginal populations; The Spell of the Sensuous: Language and Perception in a More Than Human World, by Abram -- pre-literate and indigenous mythic understanding of nature's language; The chapter on Atmospheres in To the Actor, by Chekhov -- the intangible but all-powerful energy or mood emanating from a place or character. Chekhov teaches that once an actor gets in touch with this atmosphere, their performance will be infused with the dramatic truth of the play and the character they're portraying. I'm sure you have other books to recommend on this theme. For information about my bio, approach, and creative process, please visit www.arts-for-life.org and click on "Our Approach." (Due to circumstances "beyond our control," the Arts for Life web site doesn't reflect current programs and schedule, but basic information and services still pertain.)
