Officer McClanahan back on the job in 2007

Gene McClanahan has been shot, stabbed, and runover by a car. He sees

each traumatic event simply as an obstacle he's had to overcome.

But Valley Fever has proven to be this sdale Police

Officer's toughest battle yet. For 3 years, he's suffered from chronic

joint pain, migraines, high blood pressure, difficulty breathing, and

heart problems.

The self-described health nut who loved to work out six times a week

because so sick, he lost 70 pounds, was forced to leave his job, and

nearly died.

In late 2006, McClanahan was finally feeling better and his doctors cleared him to go back to work.

The process took several weeks and he had to go through a training program but is now back on patrol.
