Guest guest
Hello All, I have been reading with interest all the emails posted by members of aspires relationships. I have been a member for a week and have 2 boys with autism and Aspergers syndrome respectively aged 18 and 15 and have been married to a my husband for 20 years who also has Aspergers syndrome (recently diagnosed 4 years ago). He has just qualified as a barrister, in some respects this is great since he wants to advocate for adults with autism/aspergers syndrome in employment. On the other hand not so good for me since I feel I am on the witness stand and have to remind him that we are at home and not in court! My role as a wife and mum has been a roller coaster. Out of desperation because of lack of educational provision both my husband and I set up a school for children with autism in 1999 and now have two schools for 89 children with autism/Aspergers syndrome, small adult college, residential home and outreach support agency. I have recently written a book about my experiences as a mother ,wife and trials and tribulations of setting up a school and battling the system. My son has contributed a chapter on his experiences and my husband has shared his experiences and thoughts about the work place and how society in his opinion has still alot to learn eventhough we have the Disability Discrimination Act. This book is published by Blake Publishing and will be available from 6th feb . TITLE 'Not Stupid' by Kennedy available on Amazon. ISBN 978-1-844454-507-0 I am sorry if there are spelling mistakes but I have had 2 hrs sleep a regular occurence of which I am sure many of you will be aware of. Thanks for reading my email and I will continue to read your interesting emails.
