Working with Schizophrenia (6:15PM) focuses the challenge of working with schizophrenia. When You Have Little Time: Working WIthin Inpatient Psychiatry follows at 8PM. This seminar focuses upon the challenge of CATs working within an inpatient psychiatric unit. People can attend one or both seminars (special rate available). Regards, Hara, MA, MA, CGP, MT-BC, LCAT ________________________________________________________________________ WORKING WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA TUESDAY APRIL 11, 2006 6:15-7:30 PM Schizophrenia continues to be predominate and yet, the most enigmatic of psychiatric diagnoses within psychiatry. Although being long studied and major advances in psychotropic medications, schizophrenia continues to be prevalent. Creative arts therapists face many challenges working with people with schizophrenia by presenting diverse clinical symptoms & treatment issues. This seminar examines the clinical presentation of schizophrenia and what creative arts therapists can uniquely provide and work successfully with this diagnosis within an acute and long-term treatment settings. The transference & counter-transference issues working this diagnosis will also be discussed. Seminar Presenter: Hara, MA, MA, CGP, MT-BC, LCAT has a long interest in schizophrenia ever since his pre- internship experience at Bronx Psychiatric Center. He has worked with this diagnosis within various inpatient and outpatient psychiatric treatment settings for over twenty- five years. He is a board certified music therapist, licensed creative arts therapist, certified group psychotherapist, student trainer, staff supervisor, and director of a large creative arts therapies department in NYC. WHEN YOU HAVE LITTLE TIME: WORKING WITHIN INPATIENT PSYCHIATRY TUESDAY APRIL 11, 2006 8:00-9:30 PM This seminar will examine the challenges of working within inpatient psychiatry and how to apply one’s creative arts therapy modality successfully despite this demanding treatment setting. Therapeutic short-term approach work in terms of assessment, treatment planning, & setting up sessions will be presented. Group work based upon Yalom’s group therapy principles as modified for inpatient settings will be major topic. The seminar also focuses on how to adapt and care for oneself as a clinician working within inpatient psychiatry.
