if the Plagio caused the tort or vice versa since we now know the

plagio was always a factor.

Teri,

Just curious to know a few things about your little guy- was he a big baby? Is the tort considered mild or moderate? A lot of tort goes undetected until about 6 weeks old, when a child will show a preference for one side, be unable to rotate fully both ways, or a lump may appear (not all tort kids get a lump however). I think a lot has to do with gaining neck control and as the newborn ages a few weeks, posture is easier to spot. I have met a mom at pt whose son was not dx with tort until 10 mnths old- after the plagio was already being treated with a band! My son's plagio started inutero, and his tort as well, although its funny that our case is just the opposite, our Doc spotted the tort at 2 mnths, and never even dx plagio until I brought it up at 4 months- although his 2 day old pic shows clear evidence of plagio. I do believe that plagio can cause tort of a mild to moderate form- if a child is in one spot the muscle can get tight, just as some kids have developed tort from hospitals advising parents to lay the child down on one side only. Its the constriction of the muscle not being able to grow that is causing it to shorten or tighten. I hope the stretches are going well for you and my best advice is to work hard on resolving this now, as exhausting as it is, it only gets more complicated as the child grows and becomes more independent and mobile. Good luck to you!
