Hi,

I have just discovered this awesome group!!! My son is 15 weeks

old and from the day that he was born I noticed that he had frontal

bossing on the right side of his forehead. The MD said that all

babies' heads change shape after they are born and we will just keep

an eye on it. Well the bump never changed. We had the xrays that

ruled out cranio, and he has now been in his helmet for three weeks.

He has had a readjustment for a red spot and for crowding of one of

his ears and now hopefully we will be on to obvious improvement of

his head shape.

He is wearing a STARband. I don't see much info on the web

about it compared to the DOC. I need some encouragement that this

product is just as good... We really didn't know much about the

different products before we had this one fitted at an

orthotic/prosthetic company that our pediatrician told us to go to.

The orthototist we see specializes in peds and has years of

experience, but what I have read about DOC is that they have very

frequent follow-up. After these adjustments, he doesn't want to see

Cody for 3 WEEKS!!!!

Looking forward to hearing some good news.

Hello and welcome!

The STARband is a GREAT product when it is used by an

experienced and well trained orthotist. If the ortho you are using

has a strong background treating babies with plagio using the

STARband then Cody should experience some great success.

Have you seen some progress already? Three weeks seems a

bit too long between adjustments for a baby as young as Cody.

Keep a really close eye on his head and if you notice any

redness that doesn't fade completely in an hour or if you are

uncomfortable in any way with the fit then call the ortho and insist

on being see right away. If you are diligent in checking out his

head and insistent on being seen when there is a potential

problem then all should be well.

Keep us posted and let us know if you have seen progress

already. I'd be curious to know.

Hi and welcome to the group!

Cody is at a wonderful age to see improvement from his band, he'll be

growing so much within the next few months! You're really fortunate

that it was caught so early!

I just wanted to chime in here about the frequency of check-ups. My

twins both wore STARbands, and we had a wonderfully experienced

ortho. After we first received the bands, our appointment was

scheduled for three days later. After that, we also went to every

three weeks, but we were seen whenever we had a question...we didn't

have to wait those three weeks if we were having problems. I should

also mention that by that point, my twins were 8 months. With Cody

being so young, you might request to be seen every two weeks.

Here's to lots of growing and rounding!

Hello Dallena, welcome to the group. Can't help you with Knoxville as

I'm in Australia. Everything is upside down here, so they tell me :-)

Hi Dallena,

I just wanted to say hi and welcome! I've already had my CI evaluation

a few months back and am now just waiting on approval from my insurance

company and then a surgery date. I can't help you out with how long

the eval process is in Knoxville...sorry. I'm sure somebody here will

come on and help you out, though.

I joined this group back in January and it was the people here who

helped me make the decision to get a CI. I came here in a panic, not

knowing what to do. I had normal hearing my whole life and then in a

matter of two months was totally deaf. It was devastating. I thought

my life was over. But low and behold, the good people here came to my

rescue and told me I WOULD hear again and to just relax and take a

breath, that everything was going to be okay. So I listened to them,

and over these past few months they have been a godsend to me. And now

I'm just waiting for approval from my insurance company, and then I'll

get a surgery date! So I'm very excited right now!

So you've come to the right place! I just wanted to say hi and I hope

everything works out for you.

Hi Dallena,

If you go to the CIHEar website www..com there is a section of

frequently asked questions. And there should be something about what an

evaluation is like. How long it takes depends on what needs to be done.

If you have had a CT scan or MRI in Chatanooga, take those tests with

you to avoid having them done again.

Usual routine is audiology test, CT scan, MRI, sometimes

physchological testing to make sure you aren't expecting too much. You

may be asked to try stronger hearing aids, if yours are old.

Check out the website. Wealth of knowledge.

Welcome aboard,

Hello..my name is Dallena. I have a severe to profound hearing loss.

And..have started the process to get an cochlear implant. I did my

initial CI eval locally here in Chattanooga. I cannot have the surgery

done here in Chattanooga and will have to go to Knoxville. Can anyone

tell me about how long the CI evaluation will take when I go to

Knoxville?

Hi Dallena,

I didn't go to Knoxville but Nashville. I saw my audi for the first time in

July to see if I was a candidate. Scored 0 in both ears. It was 2 months between

seeing the surgeon for the first time (Oct. 1) and the surgery day (Dec. 9).
