There are a great deal of unknowns out there with this new license.

I do agree with the notion that the license is formost to protect

those who we serve. The other things will fall into place sometime.

For us OMHers it might be 2010 before something formal gets set up

to factor in our LCAT license. In the meantime we can go the

traditional route for promotion within NY state OMH run facilities.

The Civil Service exams for Senior Recreation Therapist, Senior

Recreation Therapist (Music), Senior Recreation Therapist (Spanish

Language), Head of Recreation, and Chief of Recreation are coming up

on March 18, 2006.

You can apply via examinfo@... (I think). I got an exam

schedule via e-mail. The OMH website can link you to the exam info.

Keep in mind that there are actually 2 exams for Senior Recreation

Therapist. One is Open/Competitive (apply by 2/13/06), the other is

Promotion/Transfer (apply by 2/6/06).

Don't get confused like I did. Read both listings to see where you

fit in. For the Promotion the minimum qualifications include being a

qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of

permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Recreation

Therapist, Recreation Therapist (Spanish Language), Recreation

Therapist (Art), Recreation Therapist (Dance), or Recreation

Therapist (Music)

I do have one question. Why is there a seporate Sr. Rec. title for

Music Therapist?
