I've just finished conducting the creative arts in counseling workshop last week (Mon-Fri). It was a wonderful week where school counselors, MFTs, mental health and substance abuse therapists, and creative therapists came together to explore integrating the creative arts into our work. The group was terrific, with lots of positive energy, nonjudgmental participation, validation and affirmation. It was a diverse group as well, and we were given a wonderful space with plenty of room for movement, personal art galleries, sandtray, music, and drama activities. The presenters were stellar, and every piece of the process fell into place using the umbrella of constructivist theory.

I was as exhausted as I've ever been- facilitating really takes it out of me. But it was soooo worthwhile. And luckily I have a few days to rest. The participants commented that that every aspect of the week had been useful, interesting, exciting, rejuvenating. But it was the movement group midweek that really seemed to catalyze things. It was so wonderful to see therapists using this process to be not nice or compassionate, or polite, or caretaking of others, but to play around with what they usually are not and to use movement metaphor to nourish themselves.

I'm so grateful to be able to offer this institute and to have had such a wonderful team of presenters. Hopefully this will happen again next year.
