Hello Craig

What can I say? I can understand how you must feel. Although I'm not yet at your stage I know it must come sometime. Each little step we advance is a bit tough. But that's what we're made of eh? Good luck and take care

oxygen

Hello, just going to have a whinge (woe is me! ) Had a 3 day rest in hospital due to chest infection, and got sent home with an oxygenator for hopefully short term use, as my O2 sat was down to 86% when resting. However I'm feeling a bit low about it as to me, its the next step along to the old windbags clapping out and relying totally on bottled air !! Ta for all you guys out there listening... :-)

Hey Craig.....don't get down....hopefully its just temporary for the oxygen use........although I know this disease does tend to bring ya down when it seems like no matter what you do it just dosen't get better.........but we are strong and we will prevail.........:) too bad its not laughing gas we need instead of oxygen.......man that could be fun......then we would just hope that our stats went down so we could have a little laugh.......lol

Hi Lynne,

Sorry to hear this news. I can understand how upset you are feeling

about using oxygen full time. However, your lungs need time to recover

from the pneumonia, so you may not always need it. When you get

stronger and can do a little exercise, that will help. Have you thought

about going to pulmonary rehabilitation as this is always a good place

to start? As Del suggested, you may find that you only need it at times

when you feel short of breath or at night time.

Another suggestion, why not buy a pulse oximeter so that you can monitor

your oxygen sats on a regular basis. The pulse oximeters are not cheap,

but you can buy them on eBay for approx. US$275.00. If you get a

referral from your GP, you may be able to claim on your health

insurance.

Please know I'm thinking of you and sending {{{hugs}}}.

oxygen

Hi all,

I came from the lung doc for a follow up for the

pneumonia. The infectious disease doc I saw last week

stopped the IV antiobiotics but recommended oxygen and

a visit with my lung guy. My lung doctor agreed--- he

said that my lungs were still crackling and popping

but I'll have that due to the bronchi. and that I

needed to use oxygen. I asked when I should come back

to see when I could stop the oxygen and he said that

it looks like its time to wear the oxygen FULL time. I

burst into tears when he said that, that has always

been a concern of mine when I have to use the O2, that

I would never come off of it. So if anyone is on O2

full time and has any advice for me I could really use

it right now. I am trying not be upset, there are far

worse things that could happen, but I was shocked and

never thought I was at the point of being on O2

permenantly at age 30.

Hi Lynne,

I just got out of hospital in Toronto (I'm staying with my brother and his family), so apologise for the late reply. I have been on 02 for three years, but was excited to get 02, because it meant freedom for me. Initially, I started on 02 just at night, but my lungs being so damaged soon required 02 on a more full-time basis, 02 allows me to sleep better and after sleep my memory and concentration are much improved. Prior to being on 02 my brain was in a fog. 02 allows me to get out and spend time with family and friends, go to restaurant, etc. I even attended an anatomy class last fall! I'm sorry to hear that you require 02, but for those of us who do

need it the 02 can be very helpful.

Flying home to Nova Scotia tomorrow - The Land of the Sane. Yay!
