Hello everyone and happy new year..lets hope it is a healthier one for all of us...I have questions for anyone who can answer...I would like to know who else has this problem....Every night I feel as though my lungs dont want to fill with air, so consequently all I do is try to yawn...even that seems hard to do...I cant remember when I ever had a good sleep...being short of breath I seem to wake cos it feels like a heavy weight on me. This happens every night and sometimes during the day all I do is yawn to try and get air into me...I take asthma preventer and that is all...ventolin doesnt do anything for me...I try to go for a walk every day but even then I am yawning to breathe. The doctor just wont try to understand...all he says is I have mild bronch...perihilar which is apparently high up but in different areas...I would like to see him trying to breathe and then see if he thinks it is mild...because it is something you cant see most think it is all in your mind...does anyone else go through this and constantly clearing your throat or coughing...sound like a cigar smoker sometimes..lol....anyway hope all are keeping well....Lee

Hi Lee,

I don't have a problem with being short of breath during the night, but my lungs

really hurt whenever I lie down. My husband (who does not have bronchiectasis)

however, has a BIG problem with shortness of breath at night. His is caused by

a paralyzed diaphragm-a little something that is left over from a bout with the

flu a couple of winters ago. I'm not sure if it was something that the doctor

could hear, but he did see it on an x-ray. One side of his diaphragm is stuck

in one position so it doesn't allow that lung to expand and contract properly

causing shortness of breath. When he's lying down, he has a hard time getting

air in.
