The Baton Rouge members of the Louisiana Art Therapy Association have been and still are working very hard to do whatever possible to support LATA members as well as other victims of the devastation. Anne will share with you what Art Therapists have been able to do to help. 10:30-12:00: Seminar #1 HEAL THE TRAUMA OF ABUSE USING ART THERAPY AND STORYTELLING Presenters: ia Electris, MPS, ATR and Janice Hnath, MPS, ATR-BC This discussion will explore the use of various forms of storytelling that can be integrated into a creative arts therapy program to aide in the recovery process of abuse. Specific case examples will be presented to illustrate the success of this technique. Seminar #2 PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID: CRITICAL INCIDENT RESPONSE AND THE ROLE OF ART THERAPY Presenter: Wise, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT This discussion will address the concept of “Psychological First Aid†as a desirable intervention for promoting resiliency in recently traumatized populations. Understanding the value of the work of the Critical Incident Response Specialist, the narrow constraints and time limited involvement the respondent is permitted will help professionals better appreciate what is considered “Best Practice Strategy†for working with people within hours or days of a major critical event. 12-1: Lunch (Cafeteria available at CNR Campus) 1-3: Panel Presentation entitled: ABUSE & TRAUMA ACROSS THE LIFE SPAN. Michele is also an artist and an active board member of NYATA . Anne Bigger, ATR-BC, LPAT is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Southern University, Baton Rouge. She is on the University’s Women’s Studies Council; the State Artist Roster, Division of the Arts; and the Community Artists Roster, Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. She has worked in area hospitals and treatment centers and has made a number of presentations as well as participating in local, regional, national and international exhibitions. ia Electris, MPS, ATR is currently employed with Volunteers of America, New Hope domestic violence shelter as a Clinical Art Therapist. She provides individual and group art and play therapy for children, women and families. She has extensive training in the treatment of trauma. She is also employed at New Directions Alcohol and Substance Abuse treatment program where she provides individual and group treatment to address trauma as related to their addiction. Beth -Dolginko, ATR-BC, has worked clinically as an Art Therapist for over 30 years. She has taught on both an undergraduate and graduate level in most of the art therapy programs in the New York area. Beth has been on the Board of Advisors at the Children’s Museum of the Arts since 1994, where she was involved in developing and implementing many programs & show s concerning art from children in war-torn countries & the School Arts Rescue Initiative for children & families in the area around the World Trade Center. Beth is currently in private practice. Janice Hnath, MPS, ATR-BC currently works as a Clinical Art Therapist with Volunteers of America, New Hope domestic violence shelter where she conducts individual and group therapy for children, women and families utilizing art and play therapy modalities. She specializes in the treatment of survivors of domestic violence. She also provides part-time art therapy services to at risk youth. Bobbie Kaufman, MPS, ATR-BC, LCAT has been in private practice for twenty-eight years. She currently practices Art Psychotherapy in Riverhead and Southampton where she also provides clinical supervision for other mental health professionals. Bobbie is co-author of two books on the use of art in working with survivors of violence: Casualties of Childhood and Silent Screams and Hidden Cries. Ms. Kaufman was an associate professor at Hofstra University from 1978-1987 and has been a key note speaker and presented at Grand Rounds as well as numerous workshops throughout the country over the past twenty years. Kerr, PHD, ATR-BC, CGP is the Director of Clinical art Therapies at Long Island University at C.W. Post, New York. She has been the US representative to Global Partner for Ecarte for the past four years. Additionally, she is a practicing psychologist treating adolescents and families at risk in the New York area. Dr. Kerr has lectured and is published both nationally and internationally on clinical art therapy and family therapy. She is currently under contract, writing a family therapy textbook. Judith Levy, MFT, ATR-BC has worked in the psychiatric field since 1975 with a wide variety of populations. Ms. Levy is currently in private practice, specializing in trauma and addictions treament of individual, couples and families as well as group therapy. She is on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts in the Graduate Art Therapy Department and has been an adjunct professor, on the graduate level, in the Art Therapy Departments of College of New Rochelle and Pratt Institute. Wise, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT she is currently on faculty in the graduate Art Therapy Program of New York University. She has published, most recently, a chapter titled, “Time for Healing: Art Therapy for Children, post September 11, New York†in Art Therapy and Political Violence: Without Illusion, with Art. She is a Critical Incident Response Specialist with a national critical incident response organization and maintains a private practice in New York City.
