The Carolina Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association presents: Working from the Inside Out – Dance/Movement Therapy A method for embodying emotions and challenging body image problems with Kleinman, MA, ADTR, NCC Room 322 Health and Human Performance Bldg., UNCG campus Greensboro, North Carolina January 14 – 16, 2005 This workshop presents an opportunity for Dance/Movement Therapists, students and other mental health professionals interested in the body/mind connection to learn specific concepts and techniques underlying dance/movement therapy that can be used to treat eating disorders, trauma, and other special populations. Theory, methods, case vignettes, and experiential exercises will be utilized. Friday 7:30 – 9:30 PM Participants will be introduced to treatment techniques that emanate from one’s inner experience, challenging them to “attend” empathically and respond authentically. They will also learn a method for translating non-verbal experiences into cognitive insights so as to not become lost in the experience of attending. Saturday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Sunday 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Using the foundation provided by the Friday evening session, participants will delve further into embodied methods that can be used to treat eating disorders, trauma and entrenched body image issues. Participants will also be encouraged to also explore and discuss how these methods might be utilized with other populations. Kleinman, MA, ADTR, NCC, is dance/movement therapist for residential and outpatient services at The Renfrew Center of Florida. Ms. Kleinman is a past president of The American Dance Therapy Association and a past Chair of The National Coalition for Creative Arts Therapies. She is co- editor of the The Renfrew Center Working Papers, and the works in progress, Healing Within Relationships: The Renfrew Center Perspectives in Eating Disorders Recovery.
