Guest guest
I have seen this, and yes it resolved and didn't seem to happen when baby breastfed! It's possible that she is damaging some tissue with the pump and hand expressing--breaking small blood vessels. is baby breastfeeding? Beebe, M.Ed., IBCLC Lactation Consultant/Postpartum Doula www.second9months.comBreastfeeding Between the Lines: http://second9months.wordpress.com/--- Subject: blood from nipplesTo: Date: Sunday, September 26, 2010, 6:31 PM Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had experience with something like this: I helped a client today (1 day post-postpartum) who expresses dark red blood from both breasts when she compresses or hand pumps. The mother said she was leaking this blood-tinged colostrum during the late part of her pregnancy. Because of the leaking blood, she has already been evaluated and had a normal ultrasound, which revealed no lumps, malignancies or abnormalities. Her midwife will continue to follow her for this issue, but as of yet, her midwife has been unable to explain why this might be happening. The skin on the outside of her breasts is completely intact--there appear to be no breaks whatsoever. The blood appears to be coming from within the ducts. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas about what might be causing it? Her midwife thinks it is likely to resolve as her milk production increases--anyone seen this type of outcome before? Thanks in advance for any insight you can share! Best, , CLC--hopefully soon to be IBCLC in NYC!
