Warning about Part D

We all know that Medicare Part D is supposed to cover all hiv meds,

but this is not necessarily true. My bf was automatically enrolled in

a part D plan because he is on Medicaid. We went online to make sure

this was the right plan for him and found that Norvir wasn't on their

formulary. I'm sure that if he got a waiver and filed an appeal it

would be covered, but who wants to go through the hassle? I suggest

going through the formulary for each hiv med available and make sure

they are covered. Sometimes you might just check the meds you are on,

not thinking about what might happen in the future. My company doesn't

cover 5 meds. Those not commonly used, and I'm willing to risk not

needing those particular meds, but Norvir is a very commonly used med

and shocked me to know it wasn't covered. He switched plans.

You should also check out the restrictions. There are some plans that

will only fill a 30 day supply for hiv meds, I'm sorry but I want 90,

and many have psych med restrictions like quantity limits or, even

worse, a step down program. I have been on my psych meds for years and

have tried going off. I doesn't work for me. I want me and my doctor

to decide when and if I go off my psych meds, not an insurance

company. These companies are not all alike, and there is one for

everyone. You just have to do the research to make sure you get the

best one possible.

Good Luck!

Connie
