This

particular baby was seen by ENT for posterior tongue tie release. He has been

bottle fed (EBM) for 9 weeks (latched successfully for first week). I gave mom the Dr. Smillie's DVD to practice licking,

suckling, etc at home. I'm going to see her tonight. Any other tricks

you can suggest? Baby has great weight. Mom has oodles of milk and

great nipples (I saw her at my new moms group but now I'm doing a home

visit). She's not up to SNS. Dana I went to see a 9 week old tonight. This kid does not like any position to breastfeed in and cries and fights at the breast. He is being treated for torticollis

and TMJ by a chiro. He raises his tongue to the roof of his mouth when

goes for the breast so we applied a little pressure to the jaw to help

him lower but once he got on the breast, he didn't know what to do with

it. Tried breast compression - tried every position know to man -

tried suck training - using a syringe. Mom has lots! of milk (BW 6 lbs 11 oz - today at 9 weeks 12 lbs

11 oz) and pumps between 2-4 oz per breast per side. She has great nipples, great positioning but baby doesn't want

to open his mouth! Mom is returning to work in 3 weeks and baby is going to

daycare so he will get bottles there. I suggested patience, more sleep

(for mom) and trying when he was sleepy or semi-awake when they were

both less anxious. Anything you can think of? I always feel bad when

I walk away from a visit and I haven't fixed anything...
