First, I have been following this to the best of my ability - I HATE the claims the (so-called) LC's via Skype are making - is there not some way IBLCE can discipline them? Second - 20yrs experience is that combining how long each has been in business (so 10 yrs apiece would make 20 yrs combined)? The lack of ethics for their patients - the lack of reality thier claims - do they truly believe these claims? Seriously, if they are ONLY seeing moms who already have great supplies and BASIC (and I mean REALLY BASIC) latch and positioning issues - then fine. But - can they teach a mom how to determine if her baby's body is in alignment or if baby has torticollis or serious structural issues due to traumatic birth or odd position in the uterus? I doubt it. Can they teach a mom how to evaluate a tongue-tie and the severity of it? I doubt it. Can they do a weight check - a pre/post weight?? I doubt it. Can they teach a mom how to do ANY of the diagnostics that REQUIRE hands on by a SKILLED IBCLC??? I seriously doubt it. I can walk my moms through basics of these things - but that does not even begin to replace MY hands-on skills - and it shouldn't.Personally, I feel that IBLCE needs to be aware of this - and needs to do some serious review of this type of practice - perhaps even considering putting limits on it. This is a potentially dangerous method of consult with potentially devastating ramifications if something easily seen with an in person consult is missed.Just my thoughts this morning...Warmly,Jayewho worked for half and hour yesterday with a mom in LA to find her someone in her area to help her rather than trying to do things on the phone...Jaye Simpson, IBCLC, RLC
