zoned out

Hello everyone,

I have posted several times on here about my son. He has Ocd, tourette's, and

ADHD.

I have taken him to the pychiatrist and he is on Zoloft.  I give him 1.5 tablets

of 25 mg and I am working him up to 50 mg.  We did switch him to generic on this

prescription.  He has only been taking Zoloft for about 2 months.  I can 't see

any difference.  The thing is his Ocd was better before he starting taking

Zoloft.  He also won't do anything that the therapist asks him to do.  I am just

deciding to just stop the therapy and stop the Zoloft.  I have not taken him

back to the therapist, even though she is good, it is just a waste of money if

he won't do what she says. His clonidine really helps the tics, but I can't see

any difference in anything else.

The main question I have is this:  He sits and just acts like he is zoning out.

He won't answer me from across the room.  It just makes me wonder if something

else is wrong with him.  Is the zoning out part of OCD, or what could it be.  I

know that he is not just ignoring me.  He does it at night while watching TV. It

is like he mind is somewhere else.  His therapist said that could be his way of

winding down at night.  But sometimes it is not at night.

Any suggestions?

Vickie,

I have a 8 year old and we had him on Zoloft for about 3 months. He has OCD

Tourettes and ADD (no H in his). Our experience, which may not be the same as

yours, was that Zoloft actually made his ticking worse. It helped with anxiety,

but he was ticking out a lot. So we took him off the Zoloft and put him on

Luvox. The Luvox definitely works on the anxiety, but not at all on the tics.

There is a study out (not sure where it is now) there that says that Zoloft can

increase tic behavior. However, it does say that most of the time the tics will

abate after a while. So when you say it isn't working, what aspect of OCD are

you talking about (tics, anxiety)?

As for the zoning, I have seen that as well. I thought it may be from the

Haldol we had him on for the Tourettes. So I'm not sure if it is a symptom of

OCD or the Haldol was making him zone out.
