From the poll, it looks like Cymbalta Wellbutrin and Luvox did not contribute to sexual dysfunction. The 2% could be because of other reason. However, it is also possible out of 100 people, only two took Cymbalta, which gives 100% failure rate. It would be interesting to know how popular these drugs are in the market. I would think most SSRI, Prozac, Lexapro, Paxil, are and have been popular, Wellburin is also popular, Cymbalta and Luvox may not be. Again this is based on my perception and has no scientific base. -Steve

Hi Steve,

I don't understand. What argument are you referring to?

How about Effexor? Steve wrote: From the poll, it looks like Cymbalta Wellbutrin and Luvox did not contribute to sexual dysfunction. The 2% could be because of other reason. I think Effexor is also popular. Again my un-scientific feeling. On 6/23/06, yupitsme <duckfan02052@...

works for everyone in the same way. We are wired differently. And my

Wellbutrin does effect the sexual function, but it is more stimulant and increases sex drive (It also bring other side effect which is not desirable). Obviously, Wellbutrin is not a good medication for Prematire Ejaculation. But to lower the sex drive and kill libido is another matter. I agree we are wired differently, but we are all human and we are trying to make some sense out of our experience here. Still, interested to know the dosage and type of medication you were on. For example Paxil has CR and non-CR.

I was thinking that there could be inter-individual variation in the

effect that wellbutrin has on serotonin reuptake. It is typically

only a weak serotonin reuptake inhibitor, but maybe it has a

stronger effect in some people. That could explain why it has a

libido-lowering effect in a small percentage of users.

If a weak Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor, like Wellbutrin, can kill the libido, how a strong SSRI like Paxil, had no effect.!? I am trying to understand here. Many have reported positive sexual effect from increasing the dopamin level. Many have reported no/low sex drive by increasing the Serotonin. Is this true? Or should we believe we don't know, and any AD has equal chance of affecting sexual function? -Steve

The brain is very complicated and there are huge differences in the

way people respond to drugs.

I think there is *much less* chance that wellbutrin will cause

sexual dysfunction than an SSRI, but I still believe it can happen.

The are anecdotal reports scattered over the internet of it causing

sexual dysfunction.

Even amphetamines, which act even more on DA and NE rather than

serotonin, and which usually dramatically increase libido in most

people, can sometimes cause impotence by raising NE too much.

I must say that so far wellbutrin feels to me pretty much like an

SSRI. So I wonder if I'm getting a (rare?) serotonin effect.

It certainly doesn't give me anxiety or a wired feeling. I'm up to

75 mg/day now, but still no effect on libido. Orgasm is nornal but

it's difficult to maintain an erection with such a low libido,

though I do get nocturnal erections.

Im surpirsed that it doesnt give you anxiety. For me anxiety is

being super nervous and senstitive. My hand starts shaking like

crazy. I think in most people wellbutrin goes against erection,

maybe it antagonizes some other recepters like acythecholine. I

started wellbutrin XL while I was on zoloft but wellbutrin's effect

completely took over zoloft. I was told that anxiety should go away

within a week or two much like how zoloft take couple days to get

used to. But after a 2-3 weeks it did not go away. My hand were so

shaky that I was very embarrased to eat in front of people.

No, no anxiety at all. Maybe that's because I started on a very low

dose and slowly worked my way up over several weeks.

It wouldn't surprise me if it inhibited erection. Did you get that

effect?
