Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows of any legislation regarding direct payments. I

am trying to get Direct payments for my 4 year old Autistic son but was told by

a social worker that DLA is ment to be for that. I did stand my ground and said

my son is on a GF/CF organic, free range diet and his DLA pays for that and if

that was the case why is there such a thing as direct payments? He is now having

a chat with his manager and will get back to me within two weeks - i am not

holding my breath! If anyone knows any legislation i can blind him with i would

much appreciate it. I am a single parent and my parents have always helped me

out but they are now 70 & 75 and can no longer cope with my son and my daughters

who are teenagers want to do their own stuff and don't want to babysit. Also i

have no clue how many hours to ask for, i was thinking of at least 5 hours term

time and 10 hours in holidays, i live in Winchester area.

Hi

All the responses about DP being for respite or cleaners etc are good. But also

you may find as your boy approaches 5 you will be asked for a DLA reassessment.

This does not have to be negative, We had the lower rate DLA at age 4 and when

he was reassessed they wanted to keep it that way. We challenged and lo and

behold we got higher rate DLA for both mobility and care. It seems as if they

automatically give lower rate and wait for you to challenge them. Just something

worth noting if they do reassess you.

Hope that you also get the DP
