Connie,

Where do you live? Anywhere close to Graceview Baptist Church in Tomball?

They have a wonderful program for children, youth, and adults with

disabilities!

Also, have you tried the social programs through the Arc of Greater Houston?

The Arc is statewide - depending where you live...... They have weekend

trips for youth and young adults with disabilities. Also UCP has a Saturday

respite program for social interaction - though I don't know what the age

cut off is........

Please e-mail me if you need those phone numbers.....

Hang in there......

Re: older ASD kids

> Most of you have younger ASD kids. I have 2 boys - 9 and 11. But

I also have a daughter who is 20. She doesn't seem to have ANYWHERE

to fit in. We tried her at Six Flags 3 years ago and that didn't

work out. She has been homeschooled all of her life. She is high

functioning in some regards but lacks in social interactions - DUH

isn't that what autism is all about? We are hoping to get her into

TRC for job training soon. Just getting her an ID seemed like a

hurtle!! She goes out about 3 days in the month with another girl

through MHMR and their provider for social interaction. Today, my

husband gets a call from our church saying she is calling up there

too much and that she is no longer welcome at the youth meetings

because she is technically too old - chronilogically, not mentally -

seems she bothers the 13 year old boys too much. Plus, a Christian

radio station called the church and complained to them - they

threatened to call the police on her. We took her phone away

> from her, but she still gets access to them, obviously, because

she has been making calls. My daughter is desparate for friends -

would it have killed the church to say, hey, we'll provide an 'aid'

for her so she can still come here? I've decided that churches are

full of dead men's bones. My MHMR contact is out of the office for

the week. Does anyone know anywhere else I can contact for help with

an older child and her desparate need for social involvement? Maybe

our society hasn't progressed very far from just locking them up -

just get them out of our sight. Right now, I'm so mad at my church,

I'm crying. They have NEVER been there for us, nor my family. I

really hurt for my beautiful daughter. ANy suggestions would be

greatly appreciated.
