Guest guest
We have had problems with inflamed tonsils and strep for about a year, though my daughter has had very enlarged and pitted tonsils for many years. We did two courses of Azithromycin but had to come off them because she developed a big rash and pink blotches afer four weeks. We are now using straight penicillin but were on Augmentin for several weeks. The augmentin helped in that the crazy behaviour reduced and and also got rid of the inflammation ( white huge tonsils), She also developed some really strange tics - seizure like and so now we are hopfully going to be referred to a neuro immunologist in London so that they can investigate this all further. We wete told to change from augmentin to penecillin because the paed said that it is still effective against Strep A and is less likely to make her feel sick. We are wondering whether it would be good to have her tonsils out as she's 14 and the are giving her a lot of grief. The risks are as with all operation the effect of the general anaesthetic and that there's no guarantee it will sort the strep issue out completely. yasmeen

Guest guest
Yes, it was a long time!! and I had reservations re it. Huge tonsils and adenoids that compromised breathing were removed when she was 3y. Scarring on eardrums told of many silent ear infections in those early years. She was one of those children who was remarkably better the couple of times she had antibiotics as a toddler so I stuck with it until those titers went down. > > > > My 3 boys all had strep levels of 400 on blood tests. They have been taking 5 days on and 2 days off Aziythromycin for 12 weeks. Just got the blood results back and two of the boys levels are unchanged but 's has doubled to 800! > > Anyone else doing this regime? anyone noticed a drop or increase in levels? The antibiotics are fairly hefty ones and very expensive. > > Dr Goyal at Breakspears is treating all the boys so I will have to try and get a phone appointment to speak to him but would like to know if anyone else is doing this first. Don't want to just keep feeding antibiotics or get talked into having their tonsils removed if it doesn't make a difference. > > Many thanks. > > >

Guest guest
Hi, does Nystatin contain strep? All Nystatin or just a certain brand? Does this mean it is not good for our kids? Thanks. Sue To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Saturday, 3 March 2012, 14:39 Subject: Re: strep levels and antibiotics , We began an intermitent Azithr routine for strep and saw no decline in titers after many months. One doc had said treat and another said no, the high titers were just a good immune response and did not mean any current trouble. Family history of rheumatic fever and OCD w strep so I really pushed for continuing treatment. We upped the dose to 500mg/day for a 120# young adult and weeded out all the 'hidden' strep - probiotic strains and nystatin. We also had it compounded to avoid all the dyes and yuck. Titers came down. Currently, she's been off the Azithr for ~ 4mos. Titers done in Dec remain nl range. It took 3+ years to accomplish this. > > My 3 boys all had strep levels of 400 on blood tests. Guest guest
Don't you end up with a wrecked gut that may take many years to fix if on antibiotics for a long period? Guest guest
Yes, presumably so... but I think it was a trade off -brain inflammation vs gut and brain inflammation. It did not seem to kick up any worse gut trouble than was already there. > > > > > > > > My 3 boys all had strep levels of 400 on blood tests.
