Joni,

Unfortunately, most of us are here because our specialists and peds were not giving us much of any kind of plagio information, let alone psychological. Having gone through the process and hearing of so many stories in this group alone, I can say that never showed any signs of anxiousness and i haven't heard of any adverse effects from the band, aside from occassional fitting problems and some kids, although seems rare on this board, do have problems sleeping or adjusting as easily. It's a change for sure, and no doubt do these little people seem to know what's going on (sometimes!), but the majority adapt very well and so do the parents (its an adjustment for everyone) after a week or two. With you being only 5 days into the band- your probably on your rollercoaster ride of emotions, happy the band is here, worried its here, hoping its comfortable, sadness that your dealing with this, happiness that your dealing with this and getting good treatment- it can run the gamut of emotions on you!!! Hang in there, your kiddo will be fine and all you need is another week under your belt and you'll be used to the new routine and not so worried about your decision- and that first appt. will help too, hopefully rounding will have taken shape and that makes you feel really good! Good luck!!

Hi everyone,

I am 5 days into helmet therapy. has mild plagio. So..of

course we were told that he woudl grow out of it. He is now 7.5 mo.

and we did not want to miss the opportunity to correct it..so, we

decided on a helmet. Now..I'm worried about doing the wrong thing.

He seemed to adjust to it just fine. But, everytime I put it on he

fusses a tiny bit. I could only expect this I suppose...but, it

breaks my heart and it makes me second guess everything. I am

wondering if I am doing more harm than good. What if he has

increased anxiety when he is older? What if he is truly unhappy? I

just don't know....what have you guys heard from your peds?

Specialists? etc. I am always here for my kiddo...no other changes

have occurred in his life...but, I just can't help to get a bit

panicky about all of this. Let me know your thoughts...Joni (OR)

Joni,

Don't give up. My daughter has been wearing her helmet since mid

Feb. At first I didn't think she would ever adjust to it - especially at

night when we would drive her around to get to sleep! Now, she loves it!

When it's off, she reaches for it and puts her hand in the back of her head

to find it. My husband and I would dance around and sing a " helmet song " to

her when we put it on her to keep her from crying. Now she cries when it's

off her head and she see us cleaning it. She wants it on! I guess it has

become a part of her... We still sing the song, :-), but she doesn't cry

anymore.

Don't give up!! Keep working with . You're doing the best thing for

him!!!
