Guest guest
I went to Penzey's Spice Store today. One of my favorite places. I asked once if their herbs and spices were irradiated and they told me no. They said a teacher came in once looking for some seeds for her class so she could show them how to grow things from seed. I think she got caraway but am not sure. She told them later that they sprouted just fine. So, I got fennel, celery and black sesame (I'm not sure if white, hulled sesame will sprout). I'll report on how well they do. They have caraway and anise seeds, too, and probably some other herb seeds that I overlooked. BTW, the salesperson told me to keep the sesame refrigerated once it's open. Didn't know that! There are a few Penzey's stores around the country, but most of their business is online or through their wonderful catalog. Here's a link to their website - if you like to cook, I suggest you get this catalog. I've never gotten anything there that was old, and some of their blends are really wonderful. A lot of them are loaded with pepper, though, and I have to stay away from those because I can't tolerate the heat. People who can take the heat tell me they're wonderful, too. http://www.penzeys.com/ H.
