Guest guest
(I also posted this on the allergy board.) I'm hoping someone can help me. My 7 yr old son has had a runny and stuffy nose all the time along with seal barking coughing at night. I took him to his ped. who said he has allergies and put him on zyrtec. He's been on that for a year now and it has not helped. It is winter and I thought the allergies would get better. I took him to a pediatric allergist who did all the skin testing and then shots. He reacted to dust mites . The bump was huge! He put him on a nasal spray, rhinocort and told him to continue the zyrtec as well. He needs to use the spray for two weeks then go back for more shot testing. The dr also said he thinks my son is at the beginning stage of asthma- the coughing etc. I did not think that was the problem. NOw I am freaking out. I have been trying to learn as much as I can. I have allergies too but not asthma. I truly hoped my son did not " inherit " the allergies but evidently he did! I have those allergen pillow and mattress covers. I wash the sheets in hot water weekly. The dr recommended removing all stuffed animals and bookshelves from his room. We do not have carpeting. I understand the medical reason for this, but how do I tell a young boy no toys, no books in his room! Please help this neurotic mother!!! Guest guest
Get a bookshelf that has doors ! At 7 , he might be able to trade in his stuffed animals and get those cool toys that one can bend into who knows what shapes.. Get a real good hepa filter and hepa vacuumcleaner. Also make sure there is good humidity in the house. Housemites are tough, they are every where. A lot of times, things like this are the start to other allergies, make sure you use cleaners that are environmental friendly, use a lot of vinegar, baking soda to clean with and stay of the heavy scented stuff.
