Guest guest
I had a brother in law that study dialectical geography. He could tell where people were from, even though some people lived away from the origins and only had the slightest accent. It was uncanny. ew Re: Accents! ROFL Some moreso than others. Guest guest
My dad used to help his uncle in his still when he was a boy. He chopped wood or whatever he had to do. He wrapped his feet in the winter to keep them warm. He worked as a tool and die maker when i was growing up, but he also was a bookie on the side. He always bet and lost more than he won I think. I saw him go to the track and leave with a huge stack of losing tickets yet he had won $200. He had to buy dinner as what my husband and I took along to bet was gone and we were broke. LOL. I would always take a certain amount that I was willing to lose if I did, when I went to the track with him, on a gambling ship, or to Las Vegas. I played slowly if I could and bought my tickets for evening entertainment first and if I lost my " entertainment " money I would go to the pool or to the room to read. I someties went to the room early and then got up and went back to the games later t night when it was not so crowded and we could sit around and talk to one another and to the dealer. I never liked to lose money. So I limited it. I have won at times and anytime I brought anything back, i considered I won as I only took enough to spend and I was willing to spend on entertainment. Dad would borrow money to gamble more. Once he lost his start on the plane on he way there and had to come up with money to show to get chips in order to have had the free hotel and airfare. He would pay it back soon and then would play whatever he had on his own though. My dad was from the Tennessee mountains and wasn't an orphan but was sort of treated as oe. He didn't know who he was really until he was around 13. So we lived with compulsive behavior. not always pleasant, but we became rather independent. In some ways he was behind how we thought and operated. if there was something we wanted, we knew we had to get it for ourselves. Maybe guys think like that but girls don't always. Hope he made good shine. Guest guest
There are many in Ohio who soundlike they came out of the woods yesterday. And perhaps all over the country. I have relatives who sound like they are from the south when they never lived there. It may depend on with whom one  associates or the level of education. Yet even then I find as I get older my language starts to slip a bit and I shortcut some words. I do it less n written language than in spoken language.   My daughter was from Ohio and studied German in school and then went to Chile for an exchange and when she came back, she was speaking spanish with a German accent or was it German with a spanish accent. She did better on the Spanish lessons in Chile than her " sisters " who lived there as it was Castilian and she had studied it in school for a year and German 3 years. She took Spanish the last year for 2 years Spanish. The girls there didn't know their Castilian spanish well.  For about 3 years she said, " No " with that very round mouth ad sort of holding te nose sound of the hispanic, " no " . Very chopped. It was funny in a way.  There were a few words she spoke in spanish when she came home and didn't try to speak them in English. When I questioned her, she said there wasn't an adequate word in English to explain that. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: " sproutpeople " <sproutpeople > Sent: Saturday, June 9, 2012 6:25 PM Subject: Re: Re: Accents!  LOL Melody, not just like NY not everyone in Oklahoma has a bad accent...lol Mine is not near as bad as some.
