Guest guest
They take some money in light replacement and in sponges, etc.  So do have to save some money back. It felt so nice to pick off some lettuce leaves for the 2nd day. I picked some lemon basil (and oh, it has a lovely smell) and a bit of other basil. I just wrapped it in Saran wrap.  I wasn't sure what to do with it. I put in refrigerator. Or should I put with some moistened paper towel in plastic. I couldn't find a small zip lock bag. They are only a few leaves of each. I took down to 3rd row of leaves. Look like I almost denuded them with the little leaves that are left but it said to keep taking them back so they spread out. I am learning as I go. The lettuces popped out some large leaves even though I picked them a day or two ago. I left all the smaller leaves on them. My flowers are just not going very well. I think I need to change the grow lights. That was a used system. I have had to pay more like $50 for mine on Craigslist and refused others that wouldn't come down to that. Some on ebay but with shipping have to watch that price.  I'd have paid a bit more for a larger aerogarden, but not if it isn't at least half the price. Otherwise I'd rather buy it new. they have them on sale every so often and with getting the plants, cages and grow sponges and the new lights, it has to be less than half price to interest me in used one.   The salads are growing really well and the herbs are coming along, but the salads are much more practical to me as I haven't learned to cook with herbs that much. I am learning. I often don't cook either so salads look great. I have about 10 of them, most of which I got from craigslist for under 20 bucks, some I even got for free from freecycle. Several others on here have them too-they are wonderful! > > > > Thank you so much everyone for your input. We have alot to think about. I agree that one should keep things simple, however there are times that and I must leave for a 1-3 days at a time and would love to be able to come home and still have fresh sprouts instead of making sure that there all done before we leave and then restarting when we get back and having to wait days. > > Found an awesome garden on youtube that would be great to have in a small place but man the cost was outrageous! It was called the volksgarden. several of the vids was about growing cannabis, but others was about gardening veggies as well. Sadly didnt find any on amazon or ebay used...lol > > >

Guest guest
They tell you to change the bulbs every 6 months. So you don't change them until they burn out? Do you just give them nutrients every 2 weeks (1 pkt)? Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 12:02 AM Subject: Re: Need your input please  Carolyn, the lights don't need to be replaced in the aerogarden unless they are burned out-buying new lights won't change anything-it is more likely the nutrients causing the delay in the flowers growing-you might want to adjust those. As for grow sponges, I don't bother with the ones that come with it. I use either rolled up coir, soil pelets that I make myself, or...wait for it.....organic tampons! All work fine, without the expense of buying the add ons aerogarden sells. I have the " master gardener " kit which comes with the type of pods you can seed yourself. > > > > > > > > Thank you so much everyone for your input. We have alot to think about.
