Guest guest
NO, the ones I grow are heirlooms. I think there are some new types of dwarf tomatoes, but I avoid GMO in any form. I do a seed exchange with friends in France and England, and get many of my seeds from them, then save my own from year to year. I avoid GMO like the plague! Guest guest
I agree 100% this is why it concerned me that all these dwarfs might be GMO...so many are now. So how does the average person go about acquiring non GMO seeds...just Google " heirloom seeds " ...and as for me I have not had much success over the years starting things from seed Bummer Jane > NO, the ones I grow are heirlooms. Guest guest
Just get a little higher shelving unit. LOL. Keep books on the bottom. Bad thing is kids learn to climb shelves and that could be bad news. Guest guest
I read about that and about every 8 " of growth, put 4 more inches of dirt on it. Or that is what I remember. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 12:14 AM Subject: Re: Look at this!!!!  Again, that depends on the variety of the plant you want to grow. Some squash and watermelon grow on more compact bush type plants, while others grow on long vines. The bush ones are easier to grow inside. Fingerling potatoes require " hilling " , which is easily done by just making a " grow bag " with some landscape fabric or using a burlap bag...you roll the bag down like you would a pair of stockings before you put them on, add a little soil and your chits, then as the green starts to pop up through the soil, you roll up the bag a couple of inches, add more soil, and repeat the process until the plants flower, then you harvest the potatoes. Pretty stunning how many of those lil gems you can get from a few chits! > > > > ok how do you do fingerling potatoes? How big does your squash and watermelon plants get? I have a tomato and a bell pepper plant that I havent planted outside yet cause I live in Wyoming and we just had snow again the other day. could I grow these plants indoors? > Thanks > >
Guest guest
Especially if it is in your home as if it deteriorates, the dirt can leak out. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 12:17 AM Subject: Re: Look at this!!!!  Yes, you can also do turnips, celery, french leeks, and other root veggies the same way. The only problem with the grow bags is they sometimes deteriorate before the growing is done, and are a booger to move if you were to need to. > > > > > > > > ; > > > > > > > > Dwarf veggies? Guest guest
I think that first of all, we have a very brief article about the nano farm and no information about how the unit actually works. (Remember the need for specifics?) There are some beautiful pictures that look to me like they were staged by some designer. I have about 50 years of gardening experience and have never seen vegetables that look like those. And Melody, since when are sprouts not food? Guest guest
I think you are a hero to us all...just going out and getting it done with a determined attitude. Now so many of us are dependent on someone SHOWING us how to do it...holding our hand along the way. I must admit I quickly embraced this too with the invention of the internet and YouTube. There have been days when the computer is down and I have gone through stages of withdrawal but then quickly get in to a routine of the way things used to be....I spend most of the day actively DOING something and not coming in and out of the office to check email and play on the computer. At the end of the day I am so surprised at all I have accomplished. Jane > > Keep in mind, Mel, I knew NOTHING about ANY form of gardening, let alone growing stuff inside, and there was NO ONE-no youtube, no internet, nuttin to tell me...probably the only reason I DID succeed at it is because I didn't have anyone telling me I couldnt! We all have to learn somehow...in my case it was trial and error...more error at first, but there isn't much I haven't grown, if only to try it out. I even had a miniature rice padi once-got barely enough for a bowl of rice, but at least I learned how to do it! That is half the fun! > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
You are not dumb at all...just an eager student, and that is a great thing! The only thing on the paintbrush is the pollen from other flowers, nothing else! Talk about a thrill when you see the first little cucumber, squash, melon, or other goodie start to emerge-it is amazing! You like pea shoots, so why not try growing your own bush of peas or beans? Start small! You WILL want to expand your horizons as you learn, just like you have done with sprouts!
