Guest guest
I store all of my grains, seeds, nuts, etc. in my deep freeze. I buy in bulk (50 pounds at a time) so I repackage into smaller, more manageble jars. I often move jars from the freezer to the fridge-have never seen anything crawling or flying around. I move them around as space allows. > > Hi All (And Happy Mother's Day to all the moms). > > Here's my question. I normally keep all my brassicas and sunnies and other sprouting seeds in my freezer in either the Lock N Lock or the OSO Fresh Containers. And there they sit. > > I do this so whatever larvae is in them, well they are dormant. > > If I take one of the containers (let's say for example, a brassica mix of radish, broccoli and clover), and I take it out of the freezer and store it in the fridge....will the things still stay dormant? Or is there a chance that I open the fridge and I'll see things either crawling or flying around?? > > I have no problem with them in the freezer. But if I run out of room, I'd just like to know if I can store them in the fridge too? And I'm aware that many of you don't store them in the freezer but keep them in a dry dark, cool place, but summer is approaching and I can't leave them out in an un-air conditioned apartment. That's why I keep them in the freezer. > > Thanks much > > Melody >

Guest guest
Look at what happens in nature. Any insect that can survive the winter in egg stage is waiting for the weather to warm up before it can hatch. If it is cold it will not hatch because it needs the weather to stay warm for long enough for the possibility of it finding food. So unless you keep your refrigerator at a too warm temperature the seeds will be fine. Lee > Here's my question. Guest guest
Thank you Lee:; I just uncovered some pea shoots and sunnies after keeping them in the dark for 3 days. Oh how lovely. They are sprouting and shooting up and I now use 10 x 20 trays for this. So much easier. Grow a big batch all at once. I love the fact that I can now keep some containers in the fridge. Now for my next experiment, WHEN IT GETS HOT, I'm going to try and see if the brassicas grow (using the Sprout garden) in the fridge. I'm only going to test one tray (with cover) doing this. I tried this with bean sprouts and they did not sprout. Now I want to see what happens when one sprouts brassicas. They create their own heat right? So if my kitchen is 80 and I don't have room in my home made air conditioning system, I want to find out if I can stick one or two trays with covers in the fridge. I'll only learn if I experiment. And when I do, I'll make a video. lol Melody > > > Here's my question.
