Guest guest
Do you prefer the STG over the baby blanket? I pulled out my stash of Sure To Grows and am going to give them another go this week. Attempt some sunnies and microgreens..........Speaking of chips, all this talk of dehydrating got me to finally break down and pick up an Excalibur. ( I had bought a Nesco but it promptly died on me a minute after turning it on!!) Anyhoo......just fired up a batch of kale chips.....I made my own sauce/batter/coating consisting of a mix of soaked cashews, carrot pulp, chipotle powder, jalapeno powder, curry powder, and some Fire Cider. Needless to say I think it might be on the spicy side!!! It smells fantastic. I opened up the unit to take a look and the fumes from the unit nearly burned off my eyelashes!!! This should be interesting!!! Re: Chips? , to show you exactly how my pea shoots look, take a gander at a video I made a few months ago. I had grown QUITE a bit and I wanted to show my hubby's reaction. When I want to harvest them, I just take my scissors and cut right above the peas. I don't use the peas at all. I just use the shoots. And after I snip off all the shoots, I put the tray back on my shelf and they RE-GROW 3 more times. You can't beat that for value. So for example, this after noon, I had some pea shoots in my sprout salad. And then later on I made the batter and made pea shoot patties. I have also thrown them in a stir fry (with garlic and onions and olive oil). and other veggies. It's all in the imagination what we can create with these lovely food items. But the pea shoots, because they keep growing, give you more bang for your buck. And I now use the STG mats (yeah, I still have Coir) but the mats are the easiest thing in the world. And now I have Baby Blanket so I'm using that too. Here's the video. tKck4> Melody > > > > > > OK so I know of kale chips was wondering if anyone has done some other kind of chip with there sprouts? > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Was it the fumes from the hot sauce or the heat of the dehydrator? Was your Nesco new or used? If new, should get a refund on it. I decided not to buy one yet. I can still do it in the oven for them. I'll wait a bit longer. I don't have enough veggies or fruit to get a big one like Excaliber. Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Monday, May 21, 2012 5:42 PM Subject: Re: Re: Chips?  Do you prefer the STG over the baby blanket? Guest guest
It was most definitely the fumes....I have it set at 105 so it isn't all that hot......I bought the Nesco new through Amazon so returning it was no problem. Definitely go w/ the Excalibur. I got the 3900 model through Hayneedle for $219....free shipping. Guest guest
Are you just eating the leaves of the peas? Wonder if the leaves of a bean re any good. I put out some beans, can't remember if they are organic, but they are really growing in the container box. Last time I ate a bean sprout, it was bitter. Don't know if it was too big or not. Guest guest
What kind of a bean. If you're sprouting dry beans, such as: kidney, pinto, white, these need to be cooked. I sprout them for four days and then they go into soups, stews and chili. Mung beans and azuki can be eaten without cooking after they are sprouted. ew Re: Re: Chips?
