Guest guest
I thought that too when I saw dolphin in a restaurant. I think it was my dad who said it was not the mammal dolphin but a fish that was called dolphin. I later found out that it is also called pompano. So Pompano Beach is named after the fish that is called pompano and sometimes dolphin. I believe that is what it is also called. It is not as plentiful as it used to be.  My dad has cooked shark and I've eaten that and it was delicious. I don't know what kind he used and don't recall how he cooked it. He did say that one of the hurricanes that came through Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach messed up some of the plces wehre they spawned and that he hadn't seen them around. He is gone now and I sure miss his cooking of fish. I never cooked fish very much and didn't like it as a kid. But I've had som good beer battered fish and baked fish, too. I have had some good fish en papillote (wrapped up in parchment paper). had squash and zucchini and onions in there with it. My dad didn't do it that fancy but he sure did a good job with fried fish.   Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Saturday, June 9, 2012 8:58 PM Subject: Re: animal foods that are strange or even more strange.  , your story about dolphin took me WAY back to when I was in DisneyWorld with my husband about 30 years ago. We were in one of the Restaurants (with an A Frame). Now don't ask me why I know this (about the A frame but it just came to me, lol) Anyway, we were looking for a nice restaurant and I saw a sign in the lobby of one and the sign said 'We serve Dolphin " . Well, I was never so incensed as I was that day. I marched into the restaurant demanded to speak to the manager and guess what popped out of my mouth? " HOW DARE YOU KILL AND SERVE FLIPPER " I swear I actually said this. The poor guy looked at me and said " What?? " We didn't kill Flipper, why on earth do you think we killed Flipper? " Then Alan comes to my side and he's dying of embarrassment. I turned to him and said " They kill Flipper in this place " The manager is saying 'Lady, there is no Flipper in this place " . I take him over to the sign and I said 'Well, then explain this " Whereupon he bursts our laughing (thank god) and he gently said: " Lady, DOLPHIN FISH, DOLPHIN FISH " Since I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about I said as much. I said 'What the heck (didn't say heck) is Dolphin Fish " ? I then got an education that Dolphin Fish is not Flipper. Thank you very much. lol Mel
