Guest guest
Carolyn - no it doesn't cool off. Is better today, though. Haven't figured it out. It's just so much faster and easier to turn on the faucet to rinse sprouts rather than pouring from a container. I checked Little Rock's water quality and it's pretty good. I didn't see anything to be concerned about, so I hate to have to buy it. I heard that cold travels DOWN. I find this to be true because when I use my sprout cooling system I place a cold iced pack thing on top of the top cover and the sprouts are fine. I do place more cold things inside on the bottom of the cooling system, but when you have 7 trays, well, the top tray sprouts just fine (and I always have an ice pack thingee on the top cover). So in my mind, it stands to reason that if I want to have more sprouts I just might be able to place some trays side by side (with covers), place an ice thingy on top of each one and this should work. And the next morning, rinse and drain, and place back on shelf, cover and get a brand new ice pack thingy out of my freezer. > > > > > > > > Thoughts?? Melody > > > > P.S. Guest guest
I am in a mobile home on a rented lot and the pipes under here have been here a long, long time and water pressure has been low and they had to repair one line but not one that eventually comes to me.  The pipes in the mobile home itself have probably been here since the late 60's and there is a filter outside that is rusted in an iron pipe not copper and don't know how to get off unless I have someone to cut it off.  It was just a mall one so I know it isn't doing a job and could be harboring bacteria. So I don't drink the water. I do shower in it and wash hands in it and shampoo. I add it to cooking when I am boiling things. For use in machines I use distilled so no residues. For other purposes we do have a filter (Puro or whatever) and we use that to make ice in a portable ice maker. We had to get a new refrigerator and it had an icemaker in it and water in the door, and we puta line from under the sink down through the floor and back up in floor behind the refrigerator and into the system. Got a little bit at first, but now get nothing through it. Doesn't make ice and never did. We make ice in the portable icemaker and dump it in the thing on the refrigerator and it will chop up the ice for drinks. But we have to have this icemaker on the counter and with small cabinets that takes a corner between sink and refrigerator.  I made a mistake and should have gotten a bottom freezer and top refrigerator instead of side by side as it is hard to put things in there. Forget a full size pizza n the freezer. Have to stack on top of other things in refrigerator. Can't afford to replace it so will live with this until I move or die I guess. I do need ot change the filter in the refrigerator but we didn't use it much. Who knows, maybe replacing that will take out any residues that might have been in the line. Will see one of these days when I take it out and take it to the hardware store to find a new one.  if they ever get out here and change the rest of the lines or my lines to this area, I may try to contract to take off that filter out there and put Until then we drink bottled water, use distilled in machines that need water and filter our water for ice making and some sprouting too. Use distilled in my Aerogardens and I know there are no minerals but want to not leave residue but get ome from the liquid seaweed. Carolyn Wilkerson  ________________________________ To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, July 8, 2012 7:05 PM Subject: Re: I have a good sprouting (keeping them cool) question!!  Carolyn - no it doesn't cool off. Guest guest
Well I know you have all been waiting with bated breath to see how my little experiment turned out. Well I found out. Did not do the job I thought it would do. It almost dried out my sprouts. Thankfully I checked them throughout the day. I saved them. Or else I would have had to toss them. So now I have found out that I cannot take a round green tray with sprouts, place a cover on it, place it on my shelves and put ice packs on top of the cover thinking they will stay cool all day. The ice pack thing stopped being cool because my living room was hot. So my sprouts were not being kept cool. And they were drying out. So thankfully I have my nice sprout cooling system which works perfectly. So now I know what NOT to do. lol Melody

Guest guest
My tap water has been warm lately. I keep a large container of tap water in the refrigerator. I put this in a clean dishpan and dunk my containers of sprouts for rinsing twice a day. The sprouts seem to like the cold water rinse. Lucy > > That looks like it should work. Those freezable things are a great invention! > > I've been having a problem I don't remember before, and haven't figured out yet: my tap water during the day is not cool or cold - it feels warm to me - warmer than I want to rinse sprouts with. During the evening it cools off. I don't know why this is happening, but it's not only when I rinse sprouts that I may want colder water coming from tap. We've of course had very hot weather here in Arkansas too, but...? Guess I'll have to catch a neighbor and see if they have it too. Not complaining! - at least no power outages! > > Dona

Guest guest
Hi. I made a new mixture last night. I put broccoli, radish and fenugreek in the same container, mixed them well, popped them back in the freezer. So when I'm doing a tray, I take out the container and I take out as much seeds as will cover the bottom of the tray. That way they all grow nicely and are not too crowded. Saves money too. You don't put so many in that you waste any seeds. I think I put in two or three teaspoons of my mixture for one round green tray. And I put up a new batch of sprouts every night before bed time. So in the morning, I just pour out the soak water, rinse and drain very well, pour them into one of the sproutgarden trays, and into the cooler they go atop the other trays. I always do this because I need to know that I will always have sprouts on hand. I do find that because I need to use my sprout cooling system, that they don't grow as fast as well as when I had them stacked all by themselves on the shelf. The cooling slows down the growing just a bit. I mean they still grow but maybe it takes them a day or two longer to reach the top of the trays. But if I did NOT use my sprout cooling system, I could never grow sprouts in this heat. They would mold very fast. So I just grow lots of them and eventually I get my harvest. Guest guest
Thank you my dear Beverly!! And I can't wait until one of the people comes back from vacation (one of my breakfast buddies). She's been without her daily package of sprouts for over 7 days now). I'm dying to see what happens when she shows up for breakfast and she sees me and my little ziplock bags of sprouts. I imagine she'll say " OMG, I missed your sprouts " . This morning, I had several little bags with me. Only the waitress was there. She got her little bag. I asked her 'Are you waitressing tomorrow morning? " She said " no " . I then gave her an extra little bag of sprouts. Here response? Her eyes lit up and she said 'OMG, thanks so much " She had just devoured the breakfast sprouts on her sandwich. One day at a time people, one waitress at a time. lol lol lol Melody > > And I like YOU!!! > Beverly > Texas > > > Re: I have a good sprouting (keeping them > cool) question!! > > > I am very glad I did this.
Guest guest
Donna: Here is a link to where I get mine from the Sprouthouse. They don't show the mat, only the greens growing on them. Read the description. These are the 10 x 20 Sure to grow Mats. http://www.sprouthouse.com/Sure_To_Grow_p/biostg.htm And as for lights on my microgreens? Depends. Lets say I have 3 or 4 10 x 20 trays growing on my shelves. They could be sunnies, pea shoots, popcorn shoots, etc. They will get the sun all day long because that's where the shelves are located. But what if it's a rainy day. No sun at all? I then take one of my lights that I have clipped to the shelves. I turn on the lights and they are aimed at the greens. does the trick. I have a few of these lights. I don't use them often but that's what I do when I need my greens to get kind of light and I don't want turn on the lights in a particular room. I have a video on this somewhere. I'll find it and post it here.
